Thats Sh**e that is,
is that dealer prices or a garage. What age is the car, you could pick up another one for that price, swap the bits you need and sell the rest.
Or see whats in your local scrappy and get your hand dirty:D

Conversion kits are sometimes available to replace the dual mass and much cheaper.

It may be possible to drop the subframe down on the n/s and slide the box far enough out to get at it.

Oh, man that's a b*gger and no mistake. Same thing seems to happen to me. I bought a mondeo last November, something has gone wrong with it every month since. First thing was the a/c (finally got that fixed last week - new compressor and some sealant for a leaky evaporator) then the flywheel went so I had a solid conversion fitted which cost about 300 quid. Then a wishbone went, then 2 new tyres, then the exhaust went, then some git drove in to it and b*ggered off.
Do have a search around though and se if a solid conversion is available, they can be a lot cheaper and won't ever break again.
Best and all that,
Enoch.

Hi Terry, the transit one is the one I have fitted to my Mondeo now. It works well, no difference in driving it to the original dual mass. At least I know I can put another 60K on the car and not even think about it failing again.

Not really what you want to hear but I changed over to automatic cars over 40 years ago and have never had a transmission problem ever, they are much easier on the transmission than clutch/gearboxes which are really old technology.I got sick of fixing clutches gearboxes drive shafts and diffs.
And if you want to put your foot down I defy anyone to change gear as fast and as smooth as modern autos.David.:D

If its any consolation I've been having "issues" with cars too. A couple of months ago I swapped a T plate Focus 1.6 for a 51 plate Fiesta 1.6S. I put it in for a MOT as my daughter is going to have it, passed the test (advisory on top strut mounts) but the tester came and fetched me to show me the water pi$$ing out both front and rear of the engine, head gasket shot! So off came the head, sent away for skim and pressure test, rebuilt it over the last couple of weeks with a new stat only to find it boiling its nuts off after just ten minutes ticking over, scantool showing up to 129 deg but bottom hose stone cold, WTF?
So off with the alternator to remove the stat housing to check I got the stat in the right way up (jiggle pin/bleed valve needs to be at the top), everything correct so rebuild and try again, same result:confused: .
To cut a long story short I've had the stat out several times, I've backflushed the rad, fitted a new heater control valve, checked the water pump is running the right way (there are two versions that turn in opposite directions depending on whether AC is fitted and year of vehicle) and it is.
So yesterday I pulled the jiggle pin/bleed valve out of the new stat and opened the hole up slightly to allow some bypass flow and it worked!:D It will now tickover for ever and not overheat but does warm up quickly.
Its a wickedly quick car now and pulls like a train all the way form 2K to 6K, gets to 60MPH in very short order so I'm wondering if its been chipped? Its definitely a license taker if you pedal it hard:D .
DMFs are the devils own work and the most ridiculous bit of engineering to hit the motoring world since Shitroen started building cars!

Bloke I know made a wee booboo when he bought a volvo t5 v70 ex plod car sight unseen from a salvage yard, now it turns out said plod car has been used as a "u boat" so the turbo and all the lecy bits are buggered. The motor was full of water and even more suspickyarse is the log book's insistence it's an s80 diesel not a 2.5 turbo petrol estate... HOW MUCH DID THIS COST?...WOULD YOU BELIEVE £3600.00..Oh deary me did it make me giggle the plonker:D
