If am reading between the lines correctly .... Do we now have a two tier forum membership now
Hopefully this is not the case & perhaps an announcement from the forum admin would be the order of the day !!??
Not a happy bunny wasting all of that time trying to do something that is not achieveable :(

Hi Ronnie,
There is no two tier forum membership I assure you,
Basically, The forum now has 3 new forum moderators, as the forum is growing in numbers of members & the quantity of threads/posts has increased,
& to help Chris ( who was the only forum moderator ) ensure the forum will always remain the friendly forum that we all enjoy.

I honestly don,t know the answer to that, as that decision is made by the forum admin,
Chris has always had his avatar, being the sole forum moderator I suppose it was less obvious.

So when did this happen? I also tried for ages to upload an avatar to no avail but gave up, I don`t wish to winge or moan but why not just tell people things when they happen and why, I`m sure no-one would be upset, mind you Bonzo was on here when I first started my build & if he is in the dark then what hope is there for me!

Hi Guys
Ginga1pom HandyAndy and myself were made moderators on Wednesday of this week. There is an announcement due but you guys are so sharp that you dont miss a thing and have spotted it before the announcement.
For some reason I don't know why it is only moderators that can have an avatar on their posts. Mine was on my profile and magically appeared on my posts when i was made a mod. Chris has asked the question before about regular members having avatars. I think they tried to enable it and couldn't get it working for what ever reason.

NOT HAPPY
I think it was fine for Chris to have an aviator as this forum is all about his book.
I also tried for a long time to fix an aviator and only read this post this morning.
I’m not happy to see favouritism and think we should all be able to have an aviator or not at all. I think the members that can post an aviator should remove them till there has been some talk about this.

Totally agree, i think we should all have Avatars - be nice to associate members and posts with there cars, finished or not. I'm sure the mods will be able to arrange the relevant rights for us mere mortals.
Would be good if it showed your forum status below your user names to.
But, on the other hand, after the recent shenanigans it is certainly a good move to assign extra moderators to assist Chris who all have the interests of the Forum at heart.

I would hardly call it a two tier membership. The simple fact is that the forum needed more moderators due to recent events and chris not being able to moderate due to other things going on in his life. Chris and Haynes spent a long time debating over who they wanted to be moderators once they made their decision they approached Andy Ginge andy myself and offered the position.
unfortunately there is a bug in the forum and avatars dont work unless you are given admin access. to give everyone admin access just so thay can have avatars is an impossible scenario. i will have a chat with haynes IT this afternoon and see if they can have another go at fixing it.
At the end of they day Haynes have the final say over everyone including Chris. I have always had an avatar picture in my profile as has ginge the difference is that they now show on our posts since becoming moderators.
At the end of the day we didn't ask for Avatars, if we can get them for everyone we will. If Haynes say its not technically possible what can we do?

I don't mind not having avatars showing up on the forum. Means the forum loads slightly quicker for those who don't have high speed internet. I think the page also looks a lot cleaner without them. Some forums I use have also disabled signatures for this reason.
It also allows us to see who the moderators are should we need to contact one. They don't have the word "moderator" anywhere to identifiy them.

Let's imagine that the forum does have a bug as is claimed, If the new moderators were really interested in peace & harmony, why have they not removed their avatars untill the issue is resolved
On a final note .... If it were not for the cockup of only admin being able to have avatars.
Were we acctually going to be told at any point, that we were to have Three new moderators .... I for one beleive, probably not !!??

The admin team expect to be able to make avatar uploads available to all members after we have moved onto a new web server. This should take place over the next week or so. We humbly apologise to those of you who have spent a lot of time trying to upload avatars in the past.

Morning,
Not a happy campsite this morning.
We (AshG HandyAndy and my self) are no different to the people we where four days ago, we have not changed in any way.
Chris Gibbs PM’ed the three of us last week and said something along the lines of “Haynes are looking to appoint some moderators, I [Chriss Gibbs] have put your name forward”
I thanked him and waited, I have no idea about the decision process behind picking us.
When we have problems on the forum (few and far between thankfully) people complained that we didn’t have any control of the forum, well we do now. We have three people picked by the man that is responsible for us all being here, and that are passionate about the Roadster and this forum.
With regards to back room dealers, no, not me. Nothing was said at Stoneleigh, nothing was underhand. I did think an announcement would have been made but it is not my place to make it, look at me I’m a moderator, that’s not my style. I would have thought Admin1 would have said something. But he didn’t, on his behalf I apologise.
With regards a two tier system admin1 has explained in a different thread that that avatars will be enabled once the forum moves to the new server, so Ash was correct that is some sort of bug with this server, I am not a computer wiz, so ask Admin1.
It is always hard to read a post in the manor to which it is intended, I always read posts a little tongue in cheek.
With regards to the proposed club remaining impartial and separate to the forum if course it will, why would it not.
I would remove my avatar however I am at work and the insanely strict Army system doesn’t allow to do or see lots of things, avatars being one of them. I am of to a funeral this afternoon and will remove the picture of my chassis later then re-load it once we move to the new server.
With regards to having Mod under my user name, I really thought that would be the case, clearly not, I was contemplating putting something in my signature but thought that would come across as being a little up my own ar**,
I can kind of see how five people having avatars has upset people so much this should be sorted in a few weeks, as to people being upset about having moderators, it is what was asked for.
I didn’t ask to be a mod I was asked.:o
I am still the same bloke:D
Cheers Ginge

Thanks for that reply Ginge, you are a lot better at explaining things than some, to your credit.
I don`t know why you 3 have been chosen & have no objections to any of you at all. I never intend to have to be "moderated" in any way and am old enough & wise enough to bite my tongue etc when needed ! so I see no problems. If some other forums were more friendly, i.e. Locostbuilders, they would be a lot more use to many people so lets hope this site gets back to normal soon?
HOWEVER, I must say that Ronnie is on here a lot, I have had questions answered by him, I have read his answers to others queries, seen him welcome every new member etc etc and he is always polite, happy, tactful, the list goes on. I think he would have had the time and wisdom to be a pretty useful moderator, but that`s not your fault or doing Ginge.
Cheers, Dennis.

Hi all,
As both Ash & Ginge have said, we were all asked by Chris about being moderators late last week, I replied yes I would be honoured,
I received an email from Haynes admin on wednesday afternoon ( this week) informing me that this has been implemented, along with Ash & Ginge.
I totally understand the feelings of having an avatar, after all we all enjoy showing our cars/builds, something that we are all proud of I,m sure,
& as I agree that we should all have an avatar I have removed mine until the time comes when every member has this option.
As for the position of being a moderator, as Ginge has said, it has been suggested in the past that the forum could do with more than 1 moderator (Chris), this is now the case & so it is purely to ensure that this forum remains the fantastic resource & friendly forum that we all enjoy & feel proud to be a member.
cheers

Im quite saddened about the above comments Ronnie.
Unfortunately Haynes or chris didnt make an announcement. That is something out of my control. Please explain how i/we should have approached it?
As for the avatars i really didn't think having one would have caused such a fuss neither did andy or ginge. As for the bug if chris and i hadn't been pushing it with Haynes they wouldn't have even thought about fixing it.
As it stands i have removed it as i dont think an 80x80 picture of my car is worth falling out over.

I thought I would spend a moment to put my point of view a little better if at all possible.
Firstly my frustration does not revolve entirely around the topic of avatars, it goes a little deeper than that.
I must point out at this stage that I have absolutely no objection to the forum having more moderators nor to any of the appointments made.
Having personally met all of the new moderators, I am sure that they will all remain committed to the forum & do a darn fine job.
Personally, I am one of those who believe that the forum needed a tiny bit more moderation.
The main thing that sits very uncomfortable with me, is the way this whole situation has been handled by the Roadster forum admin !!??
If it were not for the avatar fiasco, were we even going to be told that we had 3 new moderators ?.
To me, the fact that moderator does not appear next to the profiles of the new moderators speaks volumes.
It would be sad to see posts being deleted, altered or otherwise moderated, in complete secrecy by anonymous faces !!
Finally
Is there an element of sour grapes here ?
To be absolutely honest, yes & no !!??
I have been a member of this forum for almost 3 years now, I would like to think that I have been a little help to some of the forum members during those 3 years.
It deeply offends me that I was not even invited to be involved in the admin of this forum by the powers to be at Haynes.
I would have declined but I would have been proud to have been asked.
This is taken as a personal slap in the face & left me feeling that my contribution towards this forum counts for nothing as far as the powers that be are concerned. !!
I personally can only speculate as to the thinking behind the recent appointments, in particular, who was chosen, the reasons why & the thought process behind it.
As with all forum members, I have to accept the decisions of the forum admin but at the end of the day, I do not have to fully agree with them.
Perhaps I need to chill for a few days, re-evaluate my position within the forum & make a decision on the level of commitment I wish to put in.
Sorry to rake over recent ground but this is something that I need to get off of my chest :( :(
Not wanting to cause a forum rift over this matter, this will be my final word on the subject. :)

I think new moderators are a good move for this forum as we have had our fair share of idiots and spam over recent months
But i can totally see where Ronnie is coming from, if it wasnt for the avatars we still wouldnt know now. Also some people who have put the same dedication and time (if not more) into this forum didnt get a look in or even informed of what was going on
As i already said personally its no problem to me and the people chosen will do a good job, i also think this forum is an absolutely great resource for the roadster builder, so the better kept the forum the better
It just should have been handled more diplomatically to avoid putting people noses out of joint
We kneel before you o mighty moderators :D
Ps. Please dont remove my post

100% agree with you Ronnie.
Logged on this morning to see possible to have Avatars..
Actually I couldn't give a toss about avatars.
But to suddenly find there are 3 new moderators......
It's not the names. Andy, Ash and Ginge. I'm sure you guys will do a great job.
But I always thought of this as "Our Forum".
OK so it's owned by Haynes..But some sort of announcement saying they were looking for Moderators would in my opinion gone down far better.
And before you say it.... No I don't want to be a Moderator.
Anyway, good luck guys.
You got my support, It's admin I'm more disappointed in.

Awww, come on, Ronnie. Being a moderator is not a sign of distinction. It's a technical role. Someone who can delete things that are illegal, inappropriate, or just spam. I think we will be a lot more sour grapes if the moderators start using their powers for anything else. (How about inserting "I am a lying bastard" into someone's signature and then locking them out?;))
Being friendly and helpful to each other is what we're all here for. I don't think we're in a competition to be promoted.
