View Full Version : How stiff is yours? (clutch pedal!)

Just got my clutch connected up, and it's quite heavy in action. It's perfectly useable, just heavier than I thought. Have I just been spoilt by years of hydraulic clutches, or does everyone else have lovely light pedal action, and I've missed a trick somewhere?
Cheers

I'm using a clutch from a FWD gearbox. Thats rock hard then stupid soft. Almost on/off. Its deffo going to be embarrassing when its on the road

When I test fitted mine - type 9 on a Pinto - original clutch that had plenty of friction material left, I found that I could quite easily stick my arm throught the chassis rails and push the clutch pedal. Check that your cable has a nice smooth run with easy bends.

I would say that my pedal is quite stiff, compared to a production car. If you've made your pedals to the book the lever action should be about right. Mine is on a Type 9 box and does take a little getting used to, as for the brake pedal force, but makes for a better feel.

You can push mine with your hand without too much fuss but they are a little heavier compared to modern cars
Check that your bush is rotating freely on the crush tube and that the bush isnt being nipped by the pedal brackets and as previously said check your cable run is nice and smooth
I also put a good smear of white grease on my pedal bushes for the final assembly which loosened the action up a bit
You will find it will loosen up slightly anyway as everything beds in
