When I started my build I was also building sports cars for a living and found it became very tiresome after the initial fast start and my interest started to disappear. I found I couldn’t face building the car in the evenings when I’d already put in a long day doing the same and getting paid to do it. Don’t get me wrong I loved building cars it was a dream job but as with everything there is to much of a good thing.
But now I’ve changed to a desk engineering job I find I miss being on the tools and makes a good change of scene. One thing I do find is my plans for the car become more and more elaborate.

I qualified as a light vehicle mechanic and auto electrician in '81 and been through a variety of jobs since then: welder fabricator, development technicial in a large manufacturing company, self employed contracting mech fitter etc. Now I run my own business servicing and installing accessories to motorhomes. I also write a tech column for a national motorhome mag.

I earn my living working on other people's kit cars. Mostly finishing them off or repairing/modifying/tidying existing cars (which I prefer as there's no IVA at the end of it).
I'm also working on a car of my own, but more as a way of becoming a kit manufacturer rather than for my own driving pleasure. It's nice when I'm working on it that I can make all my own decisions, and don't have to ask anyone else which way do they want it done.

I'm a mechanical project engineer in a steelworks. We basically do anything big and out of the ordinary. Spent the last 2 years developing a project to rebuild a blast furnace - got the approval to do the project a few weeks ago (you many have seen it on the news :p ) so now getting on doing it! Even better news for UK industry as it is one of the biggest UK investments in the steel industry for a long time.

Ohhh .... Does that mean that the availability of new steel stock will increase :)
I have been a bit bemused that steel prices continue to rise at a time of recession

Hi Rob, my dad is Bill Newell, he was medically retired years ago (mid 80s) after a heart attack. His best mate from his schooldays used to run the workshops as I recall, Don Whittaker.
