uprights modification

hey, im about to purchase a set of wishbones off 3GE, will be using sierra uprights, can anyone plz tell me how to install the uprights to the wishbones?

what if any modification are done to the uprights for it to fit? i herd some things about mushrooms? im quite confused and cant wait to get building and send every one pics, but need to get some basic knowledge before i get building.

"Mushroom" or "TopHat" needs fiting where the Strut would have been. It needs to be an excentric one.

Also need to reem out the lower balljoint hole to accept the Maxi Ball Joint.

Hi Vick

The main modification needed to the Sierra upright is to ream out the lower ball joint mounting lug in order to accept the Austin Maxi ball joint.
The original Sierra lower ball joint has a smaller taper & can't be used on the Roadster.

The musroom adapter is used to replace the Mcpherson strut used on the Sierra hub assembly.
Simply fit the mushroom adapter into the hole where the strut would have been, this will allow the fixing of the top wishbone via the Transit drag link.
Please note, the mushroom adapter will need a secondary fixing in adition to the original pinch bolt ( Required for IVA )

The part numbers for the joints are floating about on the forum somewhere as is a drawing of the mushroom adapter needed.

Being as you are buying your wishbones from 3GE you may as well get your Mushrooms & joints at the same time ;)

these ones are anodised they are normally just natural aluminium colour.

Sometimes the mushroom needs reaming to get the correct depth to allow sufficient thread through the locknut on the top balljoint.
The bottom balljoint reamer is ok for this.

Hi Bonzo......nearly got a woody making them bud, espcially when I dyed them
Paul.....yep you could ream them out, but you could also turn a little off the back of the nylock to make sur enough threads have cut into the nylon

Drill the hub and mushroom and tap both to fit a securing bolt through them.
