can someone please explain why sb5 and sb6 have compound angles? Can they be cut so they lay square against the seat back bracing?

THe compound angles on SB5 & 6 are due to the angle of the seatback top rail SB2.

It is not too easy to visualise looking at the drawing & becomes a lot clearer once you start constructing the seatback area.

Andy could probably explain it a bit better than me :)

ahh, just me being stupid, i was thinking that the two horizontal rails were paralell. Guess il have to cut them as the book intended. I HATE COMPOUND MITRE CUTS!!!!!!!!!:mad:

Unfortunately the top rail is paralel to the bottom chassis rail & the centre rail follows the angle of the seat back :)

SB5 & 6 are tricky little devils to cut .... Well they are if you are a senile old twit like me :o :D :D

You wouldn't say that if you saw me spending almost 2 days sitting on a stool, looking at a big box of bent pipes, thinking " How the hell am I going to make a manifold out of that " :o :D :D

Ahh SB5 & SB6

They are tricky little blighters indeed.

When cutting them, from the book diagram, ignore the sketch showing a 17degree angle.......this is the angle you create when cutting the compound angle.
