Can a 2.0 DOHC be run on bike carbs/megajolt/squirt?
I want to do away with that chuffing great lump of ally plenum chamber? I havent looked at the engine since I dumped it in my garage a month or two ago.
Cheers in advance

You can, or if you are a cheapskate like me you can modify your manifold for about 30 quid. It's quite easy to do ( I made several expensive cock ups but now I know how to do it, some details are on my web site - www.deepfolly.co.uk). I would do it a bit different if I was doing it again in that I would use a smaller ali box. It seems to work OK as is though.

Its actually slightly easier running a DOHC on megajolt than most engines, because it already has a 36-1 wheel and sensor built into the engine block. so it one less job off the list when it comes to setting up the engine.

Have read your Buid diary word for word excellent read and outcome..i am about to start using the exactly the same engine MT75 gearbox from a Granada ...did you strip the loom from the donor and then thin it down to the bare essentials ?? granada has tons more electrics than i will ever need !!

Hi there, I retained the Sierra engine loom and made the rest of the loom from scratch. It is quite easy to make the engine loom as well, that way all the wires could be made to the correct length and routed very neatly. I shortened all my wires at the ECU end after I had test started the engine and made sure everything was OK.

I would recommend adopting Enoch's approach. Although the other solutions will work, and may ultimately produce a bit more power (or a bit less) they are going to cost (possibly a lot) more and take longer.
If one really was looking for the absolute most possible power then one probably wouldn't start with that engine anyway.
Using the original ecu will result in a smooth running reasonably powerful engine, and the only issue to resolve is the manifold. I've driven an indy fitted with the DOHC engine running on the original ecu and manifold and was quite impressed.

Enoch can i ask if there was a specific vehicle that the alternator belt came from ? after pumps etc were removed..going to have another look at your blog re sump clearance ...

Running on a DOHC with Power steering removed I used this belt.:-

hope this link works if not go to camskill website and search for 6PK1285
I think the part number system is fairly self explanitory in that 1285 is the mm dimension
In hindsight I should removed the belt tensioner as well as it's not really doing anything for me with the belt setup as it is but hey ho I'll find another belt when I get 5 mins

not sure probably have to make an adjustable bracket on top of alternator so there is some kind of belt tensioner, I'll let you know how I get on:cool:

Andy B, I can't remember the belt size off the top of my head, I just measured it, went to Halfords and bought one as I did not have one the correct size in my stash. My engine sits about 30mm below the chassis rails at the lowest point, it needs a fairly significant bulge in the bonnet to clear the cam covers, lifting eye and fuel pressure regulator.

I am fairly certain there is a stock DOHC setup without the tensioner.

I think if you look for a DOHC carb setup they had a manually adjustable fan belt I seem to recall?

Hi
I just made the bracket for the alternator, did away with the power steering. Then used a piece of string as the measurement of the belt, took this along to the local Uni-part and got a size under and over. one of them fitted fine and rest were returned for a refund!
Hope this is of some help

have you got any drawings/dims for the bracket as it will be different to the book right?
