I'm just pondering the idea of installing a 2.0 duratec to my roadster once the build gets underway, inspired by the R500 etc.
Can anyone see any problems with install and what gearbox would suit the unit?
Any other comments appreciated.

Well the R500 uses a Quaife 6 speed gearbox. Now I'm going to assume a £6,000 gearbox is out of the question, so I'd either use a MX5 gearbox or a Type 9 with a bellhousing to suit. Depends on how much power your intending to push out the engine, but I'd imagine the the Type 9 isn't going to last very long once your over 200 bhp.
The only issue I can think of is trimming the sump a little for clearance issues. I've never seen one in the flesh so be sure to take plenty of photos for everyone!

Thanks for your reply,
I'll be using a pace dry sump setup, so no issues there.
A £6000 gearbox is out of the question, certainly for the near future.
Is there much upgrade options for the type 9 gearbox do you know?
I'll have a google anyway.
Thanks again

Mark, mconley3 on the forums, was building a Haynes in the US using the Duratec mounted to the 6 speed MX5 gearbox. You have to use the latest model gearbox though.
This is probably the most cost effective way of doing it, bell housings are avaiable, http://www.rwdmotorsport.com/bellhousings/duratec-engine-to-ford-gearbox-cable-clutch-bellhousing/prod_19.html to mount the Duratec to the type 9 but it's £200 + all the other changbes needed. I think this is the way David (FlakMonkey) ended up going, the thread can be found here http://www.locostbuilders.co.uk/forum/9/viewthread.php?tid=109801
Kind regards

This is the route I am heading down to.. using a mx5 gearbox.
I will be running in the 750 kit car series next sesson. I have emailed asking 750mc to check and I am fine to enter. Just need to apply... as far as I am aware no one is running a hayne roadster in this series and I hope to be the first.

Thanks all for the information and pointers,
Definitely the way i'm going to go, i've been in contact with a few companies and i'm looking around £1600 for a crate engine.
Some interesting links given and i particularly like the supercharged build.
If i decided to build a supercharged engine i think a used engine would surfice as this would need rebuilding and upgrading anyway. I think if i'm going with throttle bodies, engine management etc, a new unit is what i'm looking for.

Bear in mind using a duratec will require fuel injection, engine management and a cat which you'll only get from a donor vehicle like Mondeo. Create engines come without engine management or cat. etc
