Help - Ford T9 Gearbox Speedo Drive

Help!!

I have Ford Type 9 Close Ratio Gearbox with an electronic speedo (Pulse output) drive. Does anyone know how this could be used to tap an output for a digital speedo?

Failing this does anyone have an old broken gearbox with amechanical speedo drive in it that they could sell to allow me to use the orginal sierra clocks? I am not sure if it best just to exhange the tale or just the speedo drive. Real pound notes awaiting a good home.

Hi Nick

You might be able to remove the electric drive & fit one of these from Burton power

Revotec adapter (https://www.burtonpower.com/product_main.aspx?dets_product.aspx?PSet=97&sTxt=type9%20adapter)

If one of these will fit, you can then use an Escort speedo cable wich has a screw fitting on one end & I am almost certain that the other end will plug into the standard Sierra speedo.

Perhaps someone will confirm this .... If not get your local motor factor to try the fitment out ;)

I had a look at this option, and after detailed investigation it appears that the adapter is for converting an existing mechanical drive to a electronic speedo output. So its kinda right but the wrong way round.

Longshot Nick,try your local taximeter fitter if you can find one as they use a pulse from the speedo to run the meter and work out how far they have travelled.

I have no idea? I can find no documentation for this online? A simple wiring diagram or numberr of pulse outputs would help!

He has started to sell a type 9 adaptor for digital speedos, i dont think he has started to list them yet but he does sell them with a speedo kit. I can sell them but as part of a kit - i'm sure he will sell them on their own if you contact him. Tell him Andy from Saturn sent you, they ain't too much anyway. David Murray has just received one as part of a kit.

I have uploaded these photos to help explain the type of speedo drive I have. I think it could be from a Granda MK3

I spoke to the speedo man today at the show, but he had never heard of it!

It has the following part numbers stamped on it: - 8A2 17253

The Telemetrix (Smiths) speedo I fitted has a wiring loom that will take multiple inputs for different senders then once the speedo is reading something you can dial in different numbers to fine tune it

Very smooth. Its meant to give 8000 pulses/mile.
