As per title does anyone have a wicked tip on what to use to bodge a crack in a plastic radiator side tank? My Van has been running hot then ok then hot again so having got a tad fed up with it I decide to bleed the air. I couldn't seem to get the top part of the radiator hot so much messing about squeezing pipes etc and topping up...then to my delight the rad starts to heat up near the bleed screw....fluid flowed and I thought hey yer beauty I fixed it...then "oh bugger" as the rad heated up a crack appeared close to the bleed screw.
Now if i was a goon I would say i over did things with the spanner but I'm no goon and the van has been playing silly sods for a while now and I just couldn't seem to get shot of the air in the system....hair line crack I guess which when the nice hot stuff got there turned it into a crater....
So anyone got any bright ideas to bodge it with some kind of sticky stuff or have I got to bite the bullet and pay £134 for a new one..:o

Depending on the type of plastic, a soldering iron may weld up the crack, fill with similar plastic if you can find some from another rad.

Sadly no power near the old girl and come to think of it I don't have a soldering that works anymore but sound idea and being as I spent the last million years as a fabricator/welder you would think I would have thought of that but no:o
Don't laugh but just this minute slapped some jb weld gloopy stuff in the crack, doubt for a minute it's going to work but it may hold up so i can get van into a workable place.

Couldn't read the rules on the stuff so no idea if it sticks to plastic or how long it takes to cure, any ideas?
Cheers,

I once used wondarweld to repair a 3" long crack in the block of a suzuki vitara engine block. It worked a treat, but also completely clogged the heater matrix. Not sue if it would be any good on a rad, but may be worth a go?

Try Araldite, its a 2 part resin glue, not sure if a glue gun would do the trick, doubt it though.
Good luck.
