Earlier this year, we started taking our little Yorkie down to some local ponds.
Very close to home & nice easy flat walking for me

When we first started going, we noticed that the place was crawling alive with rabbits, didn't go un-noticed by the dog either ..... After a few weeks, he gave up chasing them, I supose he realised that he could not go fast enough to catch them :D

A couple of weeks ago a rabbit bolted out right in front of the dogs nose, after a very quick chase the dog got a hold of it, I was only a few paces away but by the time I got to the scene it was RIP rabbit ( Didn't think the dog had it in him ) !!??

Ever since then, our Yorkie has had a much renewed interest in the rabbits & will give chase every time he spots one.

A couple of days ago he scruffed hold of another one in a narrow part of the lane .... This time the bunny escaped with the dog in hot persuit, they both dissappeared into some scubby woodland with dense undergrowth.

Me and the wife must have been calling the litte bugger for at least 20 mins, nothing but silence .... I had no option other than wade into the undergrowth to look for him.
Ripped my way through the brambles & gorse, climbed to the top of a small mound, found the little sod, all I could see was his tail & back legs .... Bleeding head down a rabbit hole :D

There we have it, he now knows where Rabbits live & there's blooming holes eveywhere !!??

The last couple of walks have been interesting to say the least, little devil is in full hunting mode.

Just turned 2 years old & has only now found his terriers hunting instinct .... All I can say, hope he gets bored with it soon

Put a small muzzel on him for a couple of weeks and the bunnies will be spending more time indoors and he will forget about them.

In my experience with dogs , once a dog has found his/her natural instinct to hunt, they will never get bored with it,
In their minds....when out for "walkies"... it becomes their purpose

I was once racing my team of dogs, on a forest trail, the trail was only about 4 feet wide, we had covered a fair few miles & so the dogs weren,t exactly running full speed, more of a gentle run, into a rythem etc........
anyways............about 30 yards ahead was a rabbit sat in the middle of the trail..
WELL...the dogs took off like a bat out of hell  & gave chase, the rabbit eventually realised there was 6 huskies bearing down on him, so it took off too,
I,ve never seen it before but the bloomin rabbit stayed on the trail( didn,t run into the undergrowth, thank the lord it didn,t as i would,ve been dragged into it behind the dogs :D ),

I,ve never been so fast behind my team, it was as if they had found 5 extra gears then turned on the nitros gas :D

It certainly helped me come higher up the result order of the race that day.

cheers

More or less lives on rabbit, seldom interested in anything put in front of him on a plate !!??

We have lots of other places we could try walking but everywhere arround us is alive with bunnys.

The farmer down the road went out for a couple of nights, just over 80 on night 1 & over 60 on the second night

Oh well, off to the army & navy stores for a shovel then :D

We have a Jack russell who round dormice living in my shed, bloody nightmare when i need to get in there now. When i take him through woodlands or to the caravan in dorset i take a folding shovel/pick that can be attached to a belt incase he goes down a rabbit hole hes a puppy.
You can pick up those shovel picks in go outdoors for around a tenner.
