My chassis arrived today ..flat pack from Saturn ....funny that it arrived at the same time as the scrapper came to take away the grandad...and the postie delivered the V5 for it...A quick thank you however to Saturn the steel is cut perfectly ...well impressed ...no raggy edges ...and nicley identified too..Thanks again.....On the downside my PC got a nasty virus the other night and was formatted...i have lost all my build pics so far but worst of all every pic i have of my kids for the past 8 years....gutted....

Good news on the chassis..

As for the virus.... I could go on for hours about backups, decent AV, recovery procedures etc.

Good news on the chassis great bit of kit as for your bespoke dash covering im doubting the writer of the virus has enough material down there to cover a key fob ! Let alone a dash :D

That's a bold claim although it is often possible to recover some files, it realy does depend on what the Virus has done.

Good luck with the computer Andy, would be a real bugger if you lost all your photos.

The police always claim they can recover all files and pictures off a hard drive even after they have been deleted or disk formatted, maybe a quick format but i'm sure not a full one. Maybe just a scare tactic for peado's but hopefully they can Andy.

Unless they can determine the history of the polarisation of each tiny portion of the hard disk, and be sure that the history is chronologicaly identical for all the above. The no a good LL format will render all info destroyed.

And if you consider trying to do the above, then say on an 80GB hard drive, you have nealy 700,000 Million! of them little bits to test.

On a standard quick/High level format then the indexing on the disk is simply removed. Software can hunt this disks and pice back together teh file structure (not always very successfully)

In this case, it may just be that the mast Boot Record that tells the computer how to start the operating system has been wiped, a simple fix and files should still be intact and could be inspected on another booted operating system.

One thing you need to be sure of is that any recoverd files are not infected.

Viruses/maleware/spyware are one of the big reasons I like Linux.

P.S.. Hopefuly the chassis is comming on nicely ;)

and don't rely on USB memory sticks, they are a nightmare.

1) you loose it and someone may find your data
2) you rely on it and break the physical interface ( which can sometimes be fixed)
3) the controler chip looses conection to the ram, £££ Specialist Fix
4) the ram chip dies ( Bye Bye Bye )
