Had myself a cracking little deal today, popped round the local garage as I've noticed that they've had a few MK2 rally cars parked outside recently. Spoke to the owner and indeed he races them. Asked him the best place I could pick up a steering rack, he said hang on mate, went upstairs down he comes with a MK2 RS2000 rack quick turn, looked in OK condition, he said you can have this one if you want just give me £15.
Ch Ching think I got meself a bargain.... it pays to ask ;)

A similar thing happened to me. I'd been on ebay, Auto Trader and local Rag for ages looking for donor parts, not bothered about an engine/box just yet.
2 weeks ago I was on our local Ind Est and tucked in the far corner was a Ford RS specialist that I'd never seen before.
I went in, showed him my list of parts and he pointed behind him, there was a rear diff, driveshafts, drums, hubs / carriers, front hubs, uprights, calipers, a steering column and 2 switch stalks from a 1988 Sapphire 2.0i.
80,000 mls. He only wanted the engine and box.
They cost £200, but it's saved me all the searching, dismantling, etc and I even got a receipt for the build records.
Not quite as good as your bargain, but I was happy for a change, Dave.

My nickname used to be Gissit because I was always aking for things that looked as though they could be usefull, a young lad where I work had a 2.0 Sierra Saphire that he wanted rid of and he was going to scrap it until I convinced him otherwise. The problem was I hadn't thought about building a roadster at the time and the car was Auto so I mot'd it and sold it to a mate for €500.
The mate who bought the Sierra was given another Sierra for spares but then had to move and couldn't take it with him so I asked him for it. I now have a 2.0 pinto Sierra with T9 box and it cost me nothing all I had to was charge the battery and put the spare wheel on it to replace a flat tyre.
cost +€500 for the 1st car -€20 for Diesel to collect both cars
