Moving TR5

Hello everyone

I trial fitted my engine and gearbox today (2.0 Zetec / MT75) with the throttle bodies attached and found that TR5 needed to be cut out and re-positioned.

TR5 was origionally located at point A (by the book). Would it be better to move this location out along TR8 to location B, or down U7 to location C?

Mine went towards making a diff mount. Couldn't fit anything in around it, so I cut it out.

Snap, I was told at the beginning of my build to dispense with that piece. Think it's only guys running a pinto engine that have room for it

my best guess is its a brace to reduce the chance of the driver getting a facefull of steering wheel in the event of a frontal. but the steering columns nowadays are collapsible.

I'm assuming the original Locost (that used Mk2 Escort) didn't have that luxury - hence the support. Not sure about the sierra, but the MX5 defiantly has one, so no need for it.

Makes the car that little bit lighter!

After seeing the occasional coment back in the day, I never bothered fitting one in mine. One less beam to paint!

Well I cut it out, and looking at the location of my engine/throttle bodies/exhaust I decided there was room to put smaller cross-bracing tubes in place either side. Without spending some serious time drawing up the chassis in FEA software I have no idea how much stiffer this will make my chassis, but it certainly looks like it should be stronger!

I'm planning on giving this car some serious track abuse, so the stronger the better as far as I'm concerned.
