bike fuel pump?

I bought some bike carbs and fuel pump some time ago, just getting around to doing fuel tank so dug out fuel pump. the pump is complete with fuel filter, so does the fuel line from my tank go to filter first or to the pump?

I think it would be prudent to put a filter between the tank and the pump if nothing else it would stop any debris in the tank from destroying the pump.
Word of warning make sure the filter after the pump is rated high enough to cope with the pressure, it's bloody scary when it bursts!
