I would like to make a homemade motorcycle, something like a 350/500 single of say the 1940's50's.I dont want to make a replica or use motorcycle parts at all,I have enough "stuff" to build a whole bike for free.I would like to make a good job of it and I fancy something like a typical "cafe racer "style.I am not going to try to make a road rocket,I have in mind a neat stylish"plodder" that can do say 140 kmph full speed with a good burst of accelleration between say 80 to 120 kmph.A high torque engine not high HP,max say 5000 rpm.

I would use a slightly modified Briggs and Stratton rider engine around 400/500 cc 20/25hp with a home made 3 speed gearbox, probably shaft drive, dont laugh!Light weight under 150 kg if possible.

Anyhow what I am looking for is any good links to a home made bike,or more importantly a good frame design.I have looked all over the net and found only mopeds with trimmer engines, some very old Popular Mechanics style small bikes and a zillion Harley Chopper style which I dont like.

It does not have to have rear suspension as I see many race bikes did not have this feature. Can anyone help here please?Any help to point me in the right direction for a good frame/chassis design would be appreciated.David :)

David, I've got some comprehensive plans at home for some choppers. They're not free though.

I'll have a look when tonight and'll try to send you a few sample pages.

Send me your email adress please.

Chops are ok if you don't have forward controls and ape hanger bars as pure pants at cornering and yer hoof hits the deck and you end up changing up a gear....;) been there before.

Hardtail chop is a good laugh in a straight line though if good enough motor as there is no "take up" of suspension when you crack the throttle wide open...they just howl off:eek: Geeeet big long forks might look good but again pants if you want to go anyway where there are corners to get round.

Streetfightered in yer face loud as yer dare 2 stroke and be done with it...

hmm, choppers are just not my cuppa ....

any bike where your feet are further forward than your knee,s is just so wrong, shudders:D
i like to have my feet tucked up high behind me so i can use my knee,s for wearing out the sliders;)
