View Full Version : Leaking oil bath welder

As per the tittle, my old oil bath welder has sprung a leak. Looks like it's on one of the bottom seams.
Could I just weld this up, using another welder? I would assume that all the oil would need to be drained.
Advice gratefully received.

I didn't think about rust, though I know the oil does tend to get water contamination.
It's not a particularly good welder and is only 140A, maybe time to bin it and splash out on the 200A inverter I've been lusting after.

Looks like I may have a deal on a Thermadyne 200A DC Inverter jobbie.
This should set me back about 80 Pounds.
As a nice bonus, for about the same money again a nice little accessory can be had to do TIG welding. Sadly I'm told DC is no good for aluminum, though more than good enough for mild steel.:D

you can tig ali on dc but it has to be super super super clean. the resulting weld will look dull and rough but it does work.
