For the first time in 10 years, my pond pump pipework has frozen solid!!

I guess it will be a good few weeks now untill the pipework unfreezes and I can put the pump back on!

I must be mad - after a busy December decided I must make progress with the Roadster so headed down the garage last night.

Got there to find kettle frozen, toilet bowl and cistern frozen, electrolysis tank and degraser tank frozen. The steel I was working with had condensation on it which was frozen. Worst of all was I got the milk out of the fridge at the start of the evening and by the time I had left it had frozen - outside the fridge!! On the bright side I did get my suspension jigs made :)

Just been in the garage cutting out a rusty seatbelt mount from out MK1 golf. I had to give in eventualy.

I bought one of them 1200W Halogen heaters the otehr week, they are very good for the £12 .. could do with a little fan assitance mind as they don't push the heat that far..

I got exactly the same heater!!! Know what you mean about needing a fan.

Same here, i use a 3 bar halogen heater AND a fan heater. I nip up the garage and put them on for an hour beofre I set foot in there again. The problem is I have to turn them off if I want to do any welding or I'll trip the breakers, and it gets very cold in there very quickly.

I popped up there today to take the measurements for my steering rack extensions, and there was frost on the INSIDE of all the walls.

My garage is usually 3-4 deg less than outside temp so we are thinking about hanging meat in it !

Hmm.. This could get expensive.

Went back out today and the screw lid had been forced off the Preasurised Pre filter. The Pipes are all frozen, no idea if any are split or burst. The Ultraviolet box... God knows what condidion that is in!! The second and third stage filters will probably be OK. THey are just big buckets anyway.

Hopefully the pump is ok, it lives in very shallow water.

The fish should be ok at the moment...

Just hope no damage is done to the pond structure as it's raised wooden construction filled with a cement mix.

Our pond pumps still not frozen, I've even seen a goldfishhttp://www.clearviewcattery.co.uk/roadster/pond

On looking around the garden, I thought that I've had too many scoops down the local. Look at the icicles. I've not used this method of posting photos before, so I'm not sure whether the pictures will be in the post !!

It must be at least 1-2" thick.

I turned the UV of the otehr day, I have put it back on again and it's warmed up so hopefully the inner vessle has stayed intact and not leaked to the lamp.

It's been a headdy 4c today. So the roads have cleared up and alot of the ground snow has melted. It's not supposed to drop far either, so perhaps in a few days the water may have melted and I can get circulation going again!!

At least filtration is not a major issue in the winter, so as long as I can circlualte water for Oxygenation it shold be ok for a few months.

I leave our pump on permanently as it is only used for oxygenation. The pumps don't seem to last as long but we don't lose fish when its hot. Its been down to -10 Centigrade but as it draws relatively warm water from the bottom no probs.

Yeah, mines been on for more or less 5 years on this pump continualy. It just froze up in the pipes!. I guess it's probabbly because it pumps from a very shallow overflow pool and that water was very cold, it's about 5m before it gets to the warmth of the UV box.

The pump was actualy still running...

what goes, tinkle, tinkle spick...

Yes.. broken glass, water and electrics. Need to check further but that combined with a flow of water from the UV box end cap is not a good sign..
