If anyone is really bored on Sunday, I am hoping (weather permitting) to take the Roadster to a "gymkhana" at Curborough this Sunday. It is organised by my local motor club and is normally a good laugh if nothing else.
So, anyone in the area (off the A38 between Burton and Lichfield) then feel free to drop in and say hello.
The weather is actually planning to dry but cold!

What sort of time does it start? Curborough is only about an hour from me so I might just take a ride out.

is it a sprint or track event also how much to go on track?

To avoid complex regulations etc, it is classed as a club gymkhana and is using the sprint track. The organiser is also adding a bit of an "auto-solo" section to the end of some runs. So it might be a case of start, three laps of the sprint circuit, in to the paddock for the auto-solo (around a few cones) and then finish.
Normally about £30 for the day, but places are a bit limited. Anyone arriving on the day may/may not get a run.

Not a bad idea - I will try and find out if there is a space or I think you can pay a deposit via the MDMC forum.

Just checked, unlikely to be a space as numbers being limited to around 20. Long way to drive for a gamble!

Do you know if there is any charge for spectators? I might bring my son and daughter along to inspire them as they're supposed to be the othertwo thirds of "our" build team:D . I'll bring me camera and try to get some good shots of you on track;) .

Yes, spectators are welcome, although the catering facilities won't be open as it is just a track hire.

Davey
28th January 2010, 09:07 PM
Catering is not an issue thanks, weather permitting we'll be there around 10.30ish, hopefully in a blue Focus.

See you there, D.

Ought to start a poll - how many layers can I wear before I can't fit in my seat!
Going to be chilly tomorrow.

No problem at all - it is a fairly open casual event. You never know, someone may drop out and for a few quid you can run. Real mixed bunch of motors - road, rally etc. Be good if there was a couple of "seven types"
Be good to say hello as well.

Its a long shot that anyone who knows will read this but can anyone tell me if the Gymkhana is still on? I'm in Telford about 35 miles west of Curborough and its looking very arctic outside and snowing like the clappers!

It is Davey - hard frost and very light snow in Sth Derby and I am just about to leave. Briefly thought about taking the tin top, but where is the fun in that?

Davey

Snow has eased off now so we might just make it, hopefully see you there.

Just got back from a brilliant if rather cold day out. Great to meet Tim and Adrian. Just downloading my photos (430 of them:eek: ) to the laptop then when I've had a chance to scan through them I'll post a few but first I've got to go to the pub for an hour or so:D .

Adrian, you are both a nutter and my hero:D . Driving 110 miles each way in snow and freezing conditions in an open car with no heater, I'm not sure if you deserve a medal or sectioning:D !

Good to meet you geezer, D.

slimtater
31st January 2010, 05:40 PM
And it was great to meet both of you. My heroics (ha-ha) were a distant second place to Adrian who had made the trip down south! :D
Decided the Haynes isn't suited to off-roading at my cost. On the way home, the gear selector broke after being bent earlier leaving me in third for the last mile. Fairly easy fix though. Whilst giving it a clean down, found I had a puncture and a cracked rear wheel arch.
I shall try and stick to track days and roads lol!

Yes, simple fix.
Your car will be well suited to auto-solos more so than a bike-engined one!

Glad you're both back home ok and nothing more than minor problems incurred. Tim, the video of your attempt at rounding the cones is entertaining if nothing else:rolleyes: . If its any compensation the guy with the scooby wasn't really any better. I willsort out the photos and post a few very soon.

Cheers guys, we all really enjoyed our day out, D.

Don't rush posting the video!!

OK Tim, I'll hold the video for blackmail purposes at a later date:D .

For now here's a few of the best photos from today. If you think members of your club would like to see them I can burn them all to disc and send it to you if you give me an address.

Cheers, D.

Actually from the on board cam shots you were pretty brave. It's very easy to be critical from the sidelines but we didn't have the "feel" of the track and it was bloody cold so grip was minimal.

Good fun anyway and nobody got hurt, that's always a bonus:D !

Without doubt the slippiest I have driven the Roadster on!
Its a different place in warm sun and also it feels a different car.
Got another video that I am uploading - going in the opposite direction. About the only time I actually changed up at the shift lights:

I probably won't upload the auto-solo bits for reasons mentioned by Davey. ;)

You went all the way to the shift lights?

did i notice the back of the car "step out" a little on the tight left hander?

Nice drive Tim:cool:

I once did the "plum pudding" motorbike race at Mallory Park, its on Boxing Day & the tarmac is soooooo unforgiving when cold like in the video,s here.

cheers

There were quite a few step outs

and slides

and donuts

and off road excursions on the auto-solo bit!

The next video I upload is the last run which Davey and Adrian didn't get to see.
What is the weather doing? You decide....

Great stuff

You guys are either Extreme mentalists, barking mad or die hard Roadster fans

I suspect, a combination of all three :D

Me !!?? .... I spent the day down the pit welding up a crusty Escort .... Getting bunt to to a crisp & still freezing cold :(

Just like to say a big THANK YOU to Davey for sending me a disc full of pictures he took on the day. They are exceptionally good, but the video of the "slalom" shall remain private viewing only! ;)

Glad you received it ok, apologies for the delay in sending it, I blame the forum software:p . You obviously found the slalom video:D . Many thanks for a great day out even if it was bloody cold;) . Looking forward to the next one.
