View Full Version : TR1 Length???!!!

Hi all

I am currently tearing what is left of my hair out. I've got into 3d now and am at the point that I have cut tr1/2 @1472 with 10 degree paralell ends. I offered it up and it is totally wrong. I have triple checked all of my measurements and angles and they are fine but the top rail is about 20mm to short. Any ideas what is going wrong? All of the uprights U3, 4, 5 & 6 are all situated correctly and at 90 degrees to the bottom rails - which are flat on the table.....GRRRRRRR

1472mm with the 10degree cut is correct as you say,

so

have you taken into account that TR1 & TR2 meet the REAR face of the front frame?
If you do, then may I ask if your front frame has the 75mm "lean back angle" created when making the front frame?

If so,
then don,t forget that TR1 & TR2 sit on the forward leading edge of the uprights U3 & U4, I think its U3 & U4 (sorry, not got my book with me at home).

hope this helps

cheers

Unfortunately all those points are already considered. The front frame is spot on as are all of the base measurements. I have TR1 18mm short. Hang on - I'll get some photos.

OMG that reply is without the book!

Andy, go to your local collage and see if you can do an NVQ in the Haynes Roadster Chassis, because you would not have to revise!:D :D

Pictures would be good, us meer mortals might have a chance:p

:o
The TR1 & TR2 rails are the easiest to remember as they are the longest single length tubes within the chassis:)

Maybe I do need to get out more  :D

Aha! Well spotted - That sorted it - on closer examination FF1 wasn't sitting flat on the table - a bit of a wrnch to make the measurements as you describe and hey presto TR1 FITS!!!!!!!!

Where did Andys post go?

Aha! Well spotted - the only problem I have with that is that I used the jig layout from the book - how can I have the frame dimensions so far out?

I deleted my post as I wanted to check your photos in more detail & make sure I was giving you correct info, wish I had my book at home :(

will get back to you asap.

other than a poss prob with the front frame, can I ask if BR1 & BR2 are cut correctly? ( said with respect ),
what I mean is, when you marked out your build table did you mark out the position of the base rails THEN add 25mm forward for the front frame or did you include the 25mm of the front frame position?
sorry, i,m just bouncing my thoughts about here to try to solve the prob.

not doubting your work, just double checking possible hiccups.

You are a star mate - you should go into business

Can,t think of what to reply to that :D :p

Anyways.... now you can get cracking on your chassis & save what hair you,ve got left , LOL.

next bit to watch out for......... make sure the seat back angle is correct at 17degree,s , you,ll be thinking " I need another pair of hands" when doing the SB part codes ;)

well done on getting your chassis into 3D, you,ll soon be sitting in the drivers area going Brum Brum :D ( we,ve all done it too )

i had the same thing when i got to the same point but i had 10mm both sides a simple fix was to push both tr1 and 2 trough the f frame as leavers  and tweek the top back to make it all meet up
funny as i mesured it all up and was getting the same results but a bit of brute force fixed it
nearly soiled myself in the prosess
