ive noticed some people (ashG ) to name but one have used a bearing on the steering colum rather than the sierra one, any one know where to get them

Just checked my recipts, I got mine from bearing boys - item code SLFL25 LDK Pressed Steel Flange Bearing (#8155)
I mounted mine on the inside of the cockpit (see some pics in my gallery 2).From memory Ash had to modify his as the IVA inspector thought the bearing was too close to the steering UJ and would end up hitting the bearing and transfering the load to the bulkhead in an accident

david, does that totally clear the standard book mounts for a pinto like that?

Yes, I've got about 15mm between the mount and the column now. If you use the book positionfor the bearing position I found it to be too low as i think the cutouts in the 1mm plate should be 25mm and not 10mm (sorry not got the book to hand) By using the bearing you can get the column a bit higher, I plan to fill the old bearing hole with a bit of rubber sheet riveted over it. Hope that is some help.
