I have an Alfa GT that has now done 74k and I've notice that when braking from hi speed I get a wobble on the steering wheel. It osscilates back and forth about an inch.

Thought it could be a warped disc but the brakes look ok, I know alfas eat their suspension bushes so I'm guessing it could be this, or the tracking or someone sugested a ball joint?

It did eat the inside edge of a pair of front tyres recently, had a flat tyre then felt the inside edge and the wires were poking out!! had been doing 70mph on A38 as well minutes before.

Cheers Chris

Maybe worth getting the wheel rebalanced somewhere first off.Poss warped disk.It maybe that the disks are worn to a min thickness and have now warped under the heat stress.Check the thickness of the disks first.Jack the car up and rotate the wheel while you listen to see if the pad rubs in a certain spot you could use a dial gauge on the disk if you have one. Also sounds like you need to get the tracking done.

Could be bad belt in tire. Try swapping them front to back and see if it changes things.

could be warped disc, 0.1mm could do it at those speeds

if its a wheel out of balance it would show without braking

what are the tyres like? a low one or "egged" tyre can sometimes cause wheel wobble

worst case a buggered wheel bearing or warped hub (it happens)

its an alfa live with it :D

lol ive got a 147 its making some lovely noises under braking at the mo just finding the time to whip the wheels off and have a look.

definatly get the alignment looked at and as ozzy says check the disc runout if you can

good luck
