Looks like my IVA test may have to wait a little longer than planned......
Just had a large hit on the wallet today, One of my dogs took ill late last week (thursday), took her to the vets ( by the way, I,m not moaning about the vets bill or the vet, they are great vets & trust them totally in all aspects of my dogs health etc ).
Took dog to see the vet & found that she needed an operation pretty rapid, had the op today & my dog is sleeping it off nicely, tho I,m sure she must be feeling pretty rough as she,s had a real tough day.
I,m now just under £500 lighter  ......don,t get me wrong, I,d sell my right arm to ensure the health & well being of my dogs..........but Gulp....I am / was just about to book my IVA test:rolleyes:
I guess I can sit in the car going brum brum in the garage for a few more weeks yet :D
cheers

I feel for you Andy mate, I know how quickly the vets bills can add up
Pleased to read that she has come through the op OK , here's hoping that she makes a full recovery :)
Bit of a bummer over you IVA fee but needs must & all that ;)
Look on the bright side, it'll give you longer to go over your build with a fine tooth comb & enhance your chances of a first time pass

Sorry to hear Andy, my missus feels the same at the moment.
Her favourite pygmy goat managed to snap his ligaments in his knee. Its not the cost (to a point) just the welfare of the animal. Hopefully he will be fine and just have it amputated and not anything more serious.

Cheers Ronnie :)
The vets were / are brilliant, to be honest, they have made the situation alot easier to deal with, both with their expertise & also their compassion, every member of staff did everything they could to keep me informed during the course of the day, had great support from them all
I,ll get the fine toothe comb out & go over my car again :) I,m sure i,ll find something I,ve missed & get it sorted .
All my other dogs are trying to get close to the dog thats had the op, as if they all want to look after her ( I need to keep them seperated for about a week, to allow her to recover without too much play like they normally do as a pack )
As you say mate, I,m just glad she,s pulled thru the op, she,s 11 yrs old & the vet was very pleased with her general health for a dog of her age, she used to be my lead dog in my Husky Racing team & has never had an illness in her 11 yrs,
cheers

Steve,
You,re right there mate, its the welfare of the animals that come first, please pass on my thoughts to your Mrs, & hope all goes well for your goat, I,m sure he,ll be fine .

Hope she is ok Andy and I know the feeling, one carrot cost me £300 for the horse I used to have, she decided to grab it from my hand and swallow it whole and got stuck in her gullet just above her stomach.
A horse can't be sick so the saliva was coming back down her nose and she was panicking and you know the size of me so imagine the size of the horse, anyway called the vet and sedated her and let nature take its course and three days later and £300 pounds lighter she was sorted.
Good luck.

Yeah, I owned my own horse too a few years ago, a 16 hand thoroughbred chestnut mare........frisky or what :D ......but boy could she jump huge fences, a great show jumping horse she was, never thru me off, tho came close a couple of times :o
I used to spend more money on her shoes in a year than I,ve spent on shoes for myself in my lifetime....:D

hope the doggie gets better. had to take mine to the vets the other day for a blood test for her pet passport. little monster wouldn't sit still so they had to sedate her. they charged me £80 for the blood test £50for the sedation and another £20 to clean her teeth and cut her nails while she was out for the count.

Unluckily for the daughter she wasn't :( .
The plot thickens,as the vet was operating they found a lump on a teat £67.00 to remove it and £100 to have it tested, just remove it please along with my eyes and other body parts !!!
There should be some regulation of vets because I do not know a poor one and they tug on the heart strings of pet owners.
Update: I have just seen an itemised bill for £936.55 inc vat, they have even charged for surgical gloves and gowns etc.

It seems its our turn for pet problems. Our 11 year old boxer/staffie cross almost collapsed this morning on his normal walk, just stopped walking, started panting heavily and dribbling and wobbling on his legs. Took him to the vets who took a blood sample and had a good look over him, thinks he can feel a lump in Dex's belly, gave him a shot of anti inflammatory. Blood tests back this afternoon and white cell count is up plus he's aneamic and got an infection. £125 thank you very much. He's in again tomorrow for x rays/scan and we take it from there but the vet has said we will very likely have a tough decision to make in the next day or two:( . Thankfully he's insured but we still have to pay the first ton.

Your not the only one Davey with pet problems today.
My daughter and her boyfriend tock my lab (ace) to the beach this evening. Ace slip his lead and jump the sea wall landing face first on the rocks, he has smash all front fangs, bit his tonge and has nasty gash in one of his gums. Won't know until tomorrow if he's broken any bones, but the bill is already £900, we also have insurance.
Thank God!

'Tis a sad day for us as we have today lost our best friend. X rays showed a cricket ball sized tumor on his spleen, vet said if its only the spleen we can remove it and he'll be fine. An hour later they phoned to say it had spread all through his bowels and organs so nothing they could do. Christ I miss that dog!:( :(

Thanks for that Terry, I really do appreciate it;) . Dex was a one in a million dog and a great companion. We Waked him this evening in the local although it wasn't planned to do that, we just couldn't face going straight home from work without him.
I sincerely hope everyone elses dogs are doing well.
Cheers, guys, D.:(

My thoughts are with you Davey ,
I know how close you & Dex were, I had met him at Saturns unit, he was a great dog indeed.
I,m sure your memories of him will never fade.

Thanks Andy, the messages we've received from friends have helped a lot. I keep thinking I'm over the worst of it then I turn round at work and spot his water dish or his ball or his footprints in the floor paint (little bugger walked across it just as it was curing so they're there for eternity;) ) and my eyes start to leak again. We've just dug out the insurance papers and we're not sure now if he was covered for this outcome so we may have to cough up another £500 for the vet bill:( . We'll see what the vet says tomorrow as they've always been helpful.

Collected Dex's ashes tonight from the vets, vet reckons the insurance will probably cough up at least some of the cost, lets hope so. We plan to scatter his ashes in the nearby woods where he used to play (and have accidents) when we first got him, probably this weekend weather permitting.
