Hi folks
Sorry to cause you concern with my sudden absence
I am fine & well, been mega busy doing some work about the home, not to mention taking care of some unexpected jobs.
Having made the decision to see my build through till the end, I started clearing up the workshop so as I could blow the cobwebs from the build.
Have decided to ditch the Zetec engine & fit that Vauxhall C20XE Redtop engine into the build before IVA.
I figure, may as well have the car I want right from the outset !!
To that end I have obtained an Omega gearbox, all cleaned up & ready to fit.
Got the right clutch here in its box.
Managed to find a decently priced Coscast ( Cosworth ) cylinder head
Was getting geared up to rip the Zetec out & have a trial fit of the Redtop so as I could make the engine & gearbox mounts, then I could measure up for the prop shaft so as I could get one made up.
So far so good but heres how events unfolded
My mate stuffed his Mk3 Golf GTI into a traffic island, done a good job on the front suspension …. If it could be bent, it was bent.
Got that fixed for him & back on the road ( That was a joy to work on, not )
Wifey went to put the Sunday lunch on & the electronic timer unit on the cooker went up in a cloud of smoke.
Done a fair few repairs on that cooker in the past but draw the line at spending over £250 on a new timer unit, time for a new cooker.
My good lady does a fair bit of cooking & only a range style cooker will do.
Well we all know what the ladies are like when it comes to shopping !!?? ended up with an even wider cooker.
Here’s the rub …. Have to switch all of the kitchen units about to fit it somewhere new as it can’t be made to fit in the old space.
New cooker up & running but still some units to sort, not to mention a shed load of tiling to do.
Clutch finally went on Juniors Hyundai Coup’e, got that replaced in double quick time.
Got the gearbox out during an afternoon session, fitted the new clutch, refitted the gearbox & back on the road by lunchtime the following day.
Some kind of record for my wonky bones, must admit, one of the easier FWD gearboxes to remove.
No sooner got that sorted & my trusty Jeep started to emit a horrible noise from the engine bay !!??
Got that traced to a faulty power steering pump bearing & a FUBAR aircon pump clutch.
This brings me to where I am at now …. Jeep in pieces in the workshop.
Have replaced the power steering pump bearing .
As luck would have it, the Jeeps AC pump is driven by a shaft that comes out of the back of the PS pump, simple fix, just remove the drive shaft, being as the air conditioning doesn’t work anyway I’ll loose no sleep over that …. Had my Mazda for over 6 years & never used the AC once !!
Just waiting for the final few service parts to arrive, with a little luck the Jeep will be back on the road over the weekend.
Then back to the kitchen unfortunately.
Les, Mark & Paul …. You lot crack me up
Speedos indeed, I’ll have you know that they are called Budgie smugglers these days, in my case, more appropriately, “ Humming bird smugglers “ …. I blame the cold water ?? :D
Been a good few years since I was last on the beach but in true Bonzo style it was quite eventful !!??
Took the boat down for a days fishing, cut it a bit fine with the outgoing tide & the boat ended up beached, as they say, high n dry
No great drama, got a long length of rope out of the locker, tied it to the chain in my sand anchor, tied one end of the rope to my stern cleats & took a walk up the beach & buried the sand anchor up good & proper.
Went home for some breakfast & to drop the trailer off, put me feet up for a few hours to await the turn of the tide.
Went back down the beach & couldn’t believe my eyes …. A holiday maker was stood standing there with my sand anchor in his hands saying “ Ohhh look what I have found “
At a distance, I politely called for him to leave it alone …. Big mistake, by the time the anchor bit in again, this old Muppet ere had a rather long swim out to the boat. :o
Life is never uneventful in Bonzo land.
Will catch up with the latest forum news over the weekend folks.
Back to the grindstone for me :)
