Hi lads,
Im trying to choose the colour for my roadster and im thinking of a navy blue.
Im having trouble as its hard to get the right shade,
Anybody have a dark blue roadster? and what shade have you? Any pics?
ive seen pics of an ultramarine blue but it seems a bit light for my liking.
Any help appriciated!
Thanks,

Darryl,
there's a picture of mine here:
http://www.haynes.co.uk/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=1214&d=1305572740 (as you know)
Although it's ultramarine blue (RAL 5002), too light?
I know what you mean about getting the right shade. It's easy to decide on a colour but getting the correct shade is trickey.
You probably know: GRP colours are catergorised using a RAL number (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RAL_%28color_space_system%29). There are many on-line (e.g. http://www.e-paint.co.uk/RAL_Colourchart.asp) but it still doesn't make it much easier to choose the correct number, a computer screen image or print out of such a chart will be misleading.
In the end I bought a colour swatch booklet (a few £s off eBay), which has a very good representation of the colour, and made my decision using that.
The only real way though is to look at some actual samples or find someone who has a colour you like.

Till819 and I have posted pictures, maybe you might get a few more pictures and colour codes to give you more idea.
Let us all know what you choose.

tip here guys is to go to a paint shop most mix coulors of almost any colour of any type of paint thay usualy have a ral chart or swatch there
i sold ind paints on the side of welding tec support and everything is in ral or bs colour codes even stuff like ford blue and cat yellow are just matched
note the shade can very a touch ok for most things but things like cars etc need to come from same batch no.s :)

Hi everyone,
thanks all for the replies,
I think ive narrowed it down now to either signal blue or ultramarine blue.
They both look pretty similar but i think the ultra marine blue is a bit deeper!
Im amazed at the little differences between the colours and the massive differences between the actual colours and the RAL charts!
Blue seems to be a popular colour! (not too popular i hope! :D)
Does anybody have a pic of a roadster with either the signal blue or ultramarine blue panels on the car?
Thanks again for all the help!
Darryl!

Signal Blue is a smart one and so is Night Blue as it seems to change in different lights and how it's photographed.

My car is in signal blue 5005. I thought it was slightly darker than it is (aiming for the newer 06+ mini blue colour) but it's still a lovely colour. It's worth buying a colour chart for the piece of mind.
If I had known prior to buying my grp where spud gets his raw materials I would have gone to them as it's only about 10 miles away from me.
Quite an accurate picture (http://www.flickr.com/photos/serieslandy/6011262072/sizes/l/in/set-72157627236503691/) with regard to the colour

Hi,
Would you be able to post up a pic of it on the car?
Many thanks,
Darryl

Ultramarine can in certain light look almost a weirdy purple:) weird affects can be had by randomly chucking in stray colours as the parts are gel coated...and sometimes this can be just a cock up......hahahahahahaha

Pastel blues can look really smart when mixed with black wings etc or even go for a mixed colour. Our local grp firm mix colours while you wait, even if you want non standard colours

yeah i think il just chance the signal blue! (S*** did i jus say chance?)
nah i think the signal blue looks about right!
Its such a pain how every chart has a wrong misleading colour! and even every photo, looks to be a different colour!
Thanks,
Darryl

Hi Darryl,
Sorry i've just got back from a long couple of days and opened up to see your e-mail regarding the RAL 5002. We will cut out some relevant coloured sample colours tomorrow and send them over if you can e-mail your address please. We have quite a few of cuts accumulated at the moment.
Regards....Andrew
