While I have TIG welder I havent kitted it out yet with gas/helmet etc but knowing it has a stick function and needing to do a quick and dirty weld on a spinning captive nut I though I'd make use of it.

Checked local halfords website, yes the carry sticks cheap enough in the right sizes but couldnt see any helmets/guards.

Phoned them up and got transferred to a parts bloke and the conversation goes a bit like:

"Do you have any welding helmets/guards of any kind?"

"Would that be the paper kind or the full helmet style sir?"

"Err, maybe not the paper kind cause that might just catch fire!"

"Oh! of course sir, didnt think of that, I'l just check."

on hold

"No sir we dont carry any welding helmets at all but we do carry welders and consumables"

Err right then, thanks for that!

Formal training, risk assessment, method statement, cscs ticket, ppe, public liability insurance, contractors all risk insurance, tool box talks and the list goes on. None of this shite we have her applies to these countries which is why we cant compete in the world markets:mad:

The scary thing is these 'trained staff' are advising novice DIY mechanics and supplying them the parts and 'tools' to do it with.

Apart from that it did make me chuckle tho :)
