View Full Version : Roadster for sale

It is with a very heavy heart that I'm doing this....

Due to change in circumstances, I'm selling my Haynes Roadster. It's been built by me (a mechanical engineer) to a very high standard over the last five years.

It has a tig welded chassis and wishbones, which are adjustable for camber front and rear.
There are adjustable Gaz shocks all round, and front and rear discs.
The tyres are Yokohama Paradas, 195/50/15.

The fibreglass is from Saturn, and the side and rear panels are in aluminium, covered in 3M Di-Noc Carbon fibre

The seats are Westfield sport ones and are really comfy! There are also Sabelt harnesses, and a Motalita steering wheel. The tunnel top and aero screen are also covered in Di-Noc.

The dash has VDO instruments from Westfield, and was custom built by me.

It has 2l Zetec Silvertop engine (pre '95 for IVA emissions test). It has a shortened aluminium sump, a new 1.8l water pump, new cam belt, 40mm Jenvey throttle bodies, a 4-1 stainless exhaust manifold, and a beautiful stainless silencer, made by Paul Gooderham.

The engine is controlled by an Omex 600 ecu and LC1 lambda controller, and has been mapped by Atspeed Racing in Essex.

The gearbox is a V6 type 9, with a Caterham spacer between the gearbox and bellhousing.

As you can see, the car as been built to a good spec, and I hope the photos below show that it as been built to a high standard.

The car has its chassis number, and has been built to pass IVA. Unfortunately, my change in circumstances means that I will not be in a position to IVA it now, and so the sale price reflects this. Don't confuse this with a part finished project that you'll need to strip down and rebuild, it really is a fully built car, that I just can't afford to IVA. Everything works, it drives, steers and stops beautifully, and you are welcome to come and view it. People that have seen it have complimented the quality of the build.

I really don't want to sell this, but needs must, so I'm asking £3,500 for it. You really couldn't buy the parts to build a car to this spec for that money!

Any questions, please ask!

Cheers

Adrian

Car trailers are cheap to hire, I'll even help you load it up and make you a cup of tea!

I did actually pick a chassis up from Penrith once, up and back in a day, it's not that bad!

Is there anything left to do other than iva, do you have proof of the engine age?

Greenhithe in Kent, 2 miles from the Dartford bridge, junction 1 of the m25

Twin

It needs the sierra steering wheel putting on (I have this), a few nut covers, and maybe the odd bit of edge trim, basically no!

I believe people have used the burton catalogue to prove engine age, and the engine number is clearly marked on the block.

Such a shame, I've admired your car a lot since I've been on the forum, and if I could I would buy it in an instant, I'm only the other side of the bridge, but student living doesn't allow. Best of luck.

Hi Adrian,
Gutted to hear you got to sell her...:( :(
Your car was an inspiration to me from the start. There are so many fine details to look at and admire and I can only feel for you...
Hope you get want you want for it (at that price it's a steal) and all the best for the future.

Cheers Johno

Really sad that you have to sell it, your work is top notch. I'm sure that if you could knock out a couple of dashboards the mula would pay for the IVA. I would certainly buy one off you.
I hope you get more than you are asking for it.

Mick.

£95!! my local place is doing them for £35 a day at the mo including straps. Bit of a long way to for you though.

It's sad to see you selling up, although I've thought it a few times myself.
Could you not just shelf it untill you have the iva money, there is no rush?

Unfortunately we need the money to fund a car for my wife to drive through the winter, she's fairly game, but IVAing the kit car and driving it in the ice and snow didn't interest her!

My heart is breaking to see you have to sell up. This car is the best finished Haynes Roadster I've seen. And for the price it's definitely a steal, I'm certain you've spent way more on it than what you're asking.

That's a major shame Adrian, i forgot how good your car looks. The car has gone for a bargain, it's a real shame that the Haynes doesn't fetch as much as some of the factory marques, ie MK, MNR, Westfield, even though they are basically the same car just self built and better in some cases as you have proved.

All the Best......AndyH

personally i think you under valued it which is why it sold so quick, but then i guess thats why it was cheep. iva'd its worth 5.5k every day of the week, someone has got a real bargain for something that essentially needs £500 spending on it.

adrianreeve
29th October 2012, 11:42 PM
You're right Ash, but I got what needed for it. Could have put it up for £4.5k, and waited 3 months to sell, but I was happy to get what I got it, means I can get the car I'd like now, and move on.

I've really enjoyed the process of building a car from scratch, and I have no doubt that I'll build another one day.

Meantime, I'm happy to build a dash for anyone who wants one, pm me if you're interested!

Ok, having thought about it, it's not really going to be feasible to build dashes without having the car, as the width of the scuttle will be slightly different depending on whether you have used ali or fibreglass side panels, and the centre part that attaches to the tunnel top will be unique to each car.

What I'll do when things settle down is a quick guide to how I made mine. Seriously, if you can build the car, this dash won't be hard for you!

That's a great idea Adrian, i always thought the original Sierra dash makes the car look really dated and gives away the self built roots of the roadster to interested eyes. The Sierra is a great car but the dash makes the roadster look old. Great for getting the car through IVA but your dash design takes the roadster to the next level and looks wonderful.

I don't know, round separate gauges are even more old-fashioned IMO. But, yes, the Sierra dash looks cheap, and it is.

I think I'd describe the round ones as 'classic' or 'retro' rather than old fashioned!
They're certainly more in keeping with the roadster than 'orrible plasticky 80's clusters!

Agreed( especially since I am collecting for my post IVA dash)
I think Adrians is the biz (and I am going to make something similar)however the digi dash looks ace too .It shows the adaptability of the roadster design and the truth of the saying "Beauty is in the eye of the beholder"

Agreed AyJay, the roadster is so versatile - they both look great.

I love the Digidash on mine, its placed in the dash right behind the wheel. It's always in your vision while you're driving and does exactly what you need it to do.

Thats about right, I always thought that the roadster would look equally as well with steel wheels and hub caps as it would with racing alloys but you have to follow the old world theme through the rest of the build. Classic dash, ali bonnet with leather straps etc.
