318TI BMW Engine

I have got my hands on a 318ti BMW engine & gbox. There isnt any injectors with it, so I want to use bike carbs. Can anyone tell me if there are any isssues with this set up?

you will also have to get a megajolt ignition system as the BMW ECU won't run the engine without the injectors.

I imagine that replaement injectors would be slightly cheaper than bike carbs as well.

Thanks for that, the electronics are not my strong point. I will get the injectors and ecu from the berakers. Is the wiring pretty straight forward?

Its can be complex just because of the sheer ammount of wires involved

Depending on what year car the ecu comes from you may have immobiliser problems unless you use the ignition barrel and keys and sometimes clocks from the car you take them from

Megajolt and bike carbs is a reasonably simple installation but you will need a custom inlet manifold, not seen it done on a bmw engine yet though so unsure what problems you could encounter

As with anything though the ££££ soon add up as you would also need it setting up on a rolling road with bike carbs

BoggBothers make some superb custom manifolds if you cant make your own but they cost a bit too :rolleyes:

It's not too difficult if you have a donor to remove it all from. BMW engines are basically "plug and play" ie. everything to run them is contained in the engine loom. The donor makes it easier as you can trace the wires that join to the car and see where they go. Basically you will have permanent live, ignition live, starter solenoid and fuel pump wiring. that's all it should need to make it run. The ECU plugs directly into the engine loom.

It's more difficult if you are trying to put bits from different cars together.

bmw is a 60-2 crank pickup so its megasquirt or fit a trigger wheel btw
megajolt must use a edis unit(36-1)
als mega squirt will run spark on its own and could be used if you go to inj at any point
