Hi guys,

I think this has been asked before but i cant find it so...

What size grub screws should I use to secure the mushrooms? Also will one on each upright do or should i use two or three. Or should i just drill into them and put a couple of small bolts into them?

Thanks,
Nathan

Hi Nathan

I am intending to drill & tap to a M6 metric thread & use a high tensile, set bolt.
This will be coated with loc-tite prior to fitting ( Take a photos in case the IVA tester questions the locking method )

If you don't fancy trusting to a M6 bolt, up it one size to M8 .

A single fixing in each upright is the minimum requirement for IVA.

Just one m6 should be sufficient, my iva tester was happy with that

You dont dont want to be drilling too many holes in your uprights!

The mushrooms are well and truly clamped in position by the pinch bolt anyway, the secondary fixture is just belt and braces

As Ronnie says set bolts are generally a higher tensile strength should you feel the need to go one better than an ordinary bolt

Could use m6 stainless dome head bolt in each mushroom, if the clamp comes loose you will feel it straight away through the steering while the bolt holds the mushroom in place giving you ample time to add some loctite and clamp up the bolt again with a bigger spanner.

Mr IVA man is quite happy with that, but as said don't weaken the ali mushroom any more than need be.
