Just found out that the donor car i bought that was sorn became unsorn when it transfered to my name 7 months ago...... great now i have to pay tax on a Cosworth Scorpio >_< wounder how much that will be.
The crazy thing is i saw no information on the V5 saying that it will become active once transfered.

I had the same problem but I wrote them a nice letter stating that it was going to be a donor vehicle. They let me off saying I should SORN in my name. It's worth the cost of a stamp to try.;)

They contacted me. Like you I thought it was OK because the previous owner had it on SORN.
Can't remember which address I sent it to

i sorned my donor by post as the lady on the phone said i could not sorn it as it was not taxed by me before and was only just reg'ed in my name.
noticed didnt get any reply back after 7 weeks so gave them a ring to ask if thay sent a sorn reply letter. told me i need to resend the paperwork
then thay nicly sent me a fine and would not let me appeal unless i could prove thay recived it (recorded mail). my fault for not making sure i got a reply in 28days! all there in black and white on the forms
may as well taxed it for 6 months and drove it about:rolleyes:
happens alot funny i wounder why

Sounds like you were well & truely stitched up on the phone Baz, no reason at all why you couldn't have declared SORN, irrespective of who previously taxed the vehicle !! :(
I had a run in with DVLA over SORN about 5 years ago ( Postal SORN )
In the end I had the fixed penalty overturned.
Only ever deal with SORN online these days, instant proof is emailed to you so no need to remember if you have recieved the postal confirmation .... About 25% of the time, they fail to arrive anyway
For the best part, I find it a complete waste of time dealing with DVLA via the telephone, so, so many staff who either can't be bothered to deal with you enquiry or just plainly don't have a clue what they are talking about !!??
Worst of all, you never have any proof that a phone conversation ever took place

I worked for a firm in penryn briefly fabricating when I first went to Cornwall and this firm made waste compactors. Now we had two machines come in from DVLA for refurb...when we opened them up there were driving licenses and log books...loads of them so no wonder it's easy fot folk to ge dodgy copies made!!!
When I sold the Sierra on the dvla never let me know they recieved the docs and I forgot anyway until I got a call saying car not taxed and I owe £80... i Told the bloke to take a wander but they kept on at it for awhile.
DVLA sucks!
