Chunky2772 has only visited the forum now and again but just like to say a BIG well done to Mick for passing and getting on the road.
Mick has put together a Haynes Roadster based car on Mx-5 running gear with a Hyabusa engine, Saturn bodywork front with a completely redesigned rear end and it all looks the dogs bo**oxs. I only know its on the road after i was informed that he was witnessed flying around in it. Mick is from Washington, North East again, so have e-mailed him to get his butt down here so we can get some pics up.
It's a fantastic build and if you see this Mick....WELL DONE...
All the Best...Andrew

Yeah, well done chunky. Hope you're enjoying your machine, and I hope it's as mad as it sounds.
If you do see this, perhaps you could give me some help with electric reverse as I'm building a BEC too.
Well done again mate, enjoy.

Car has not passed iva sorry! Im thinking about selling it as a track car its just sitting in my garage collecting dust ive lost count how much its cost me to build i wish i had never started the thing. I realy do think that dvla dont want these cars on the road the iva test it a nightmare to get a bec through it. If anyone is thinking about building a bec 7 don't do it its not worth the hastle it will end up costing you a fortune to build it.

My problem is with emissions! bikes are not emission tested but because ive put a bike engine in my kit car its got to pass 2008 car emissions. How can a bike have no emissions test but because ive put that bike engine in my kit car its now got to pass a car emissions test its still the same bl**dy engine dvla just make the rules up to suite them. Ive had the car to the mot center and its failed the emissions test. I started building this car before they brought these silly rules in so i had no choice but to finish building the car.

that is such a shame your feeling this way . maybe sit back and relax a bit before making any rash decisions. can you not find a bike exhaust end can with a cat built in ? where theres a will theres a way :(

was thinking along the same lines. Throw a load of cats in the exhaust system and do anything it takes to get it passed. Then can mess around with it after getting it how you want it. Not 100% legit i know but then again they are not exactly being fair are they lol

the people who imported Morgan cars to the USA years ago converted them to LPG. They flew thru emissions testing. There are a lot of LPG mixers on EBAY, could you temporarily convert the car long enough to pass?

Hello Mick, firstly, apologies for getting it wrong when i was told you were blasting about the ind est at washington i had wrongly assumed that you had passed. There are plenty of bike engined cars that have passed emissions i am certainly no expert in bec's but will a rolling road session not help to get a map which will suit the engine to get emissions down to a level they will pass. The IVA fees are a complete rip off though but it will certainly be worth it in the end.
Secondly, looks like we will be booking a track day for Friday 1st of April at Teesside for testing of the track car. I'm sure if you had a day flying round the track it may change your mind.
All the Best.....Andrew

Oh it's worth the effort believe me and I suggest you have a word with the lads at Mac1 motorsport as they kinda like bec's, well Colin does and they have put heaps of them thru the SVA and now IVA...

When i built my F27 with a ZX9 motor in it i wondered why it had to pass car emissions test also, but it is a car no matter where the engine is from.
Anyway i failed the emissions test 3 times and got real pissed off with it all,i even had the company recommended cat in it.What i did was get the emissions set up properly on a gas analyser and it passed easily,so dont give up because the first time you drive it all the dramas will disappear in an instant.:D

Ive put two cats in the exhaust system now and its not made any difference.
I dont want buy a power commander and have the hastle of the rolling road. The engine in the car is nearly brand new its only got 1,500 miles on it and thats also more cash i need to through into it.

How much is it to do the track day at teeside? Also is there any noise regs what db levels are allowed.

what you running engine and fueling wise i would be surprised if you could not get a bike engine thu a cat test you would need to have some form of fuel inj running closed loop lambda (narrow band would be ok)
megasquirt/microsquirt springs to mind
if you have say a newer bike engine it would have inj and a sensor in the exaust it should get through ok
thing is with cats is you have to get the fueling fairly lean to get good gasses out
you would need your pre cat co less than 0.50 to have any chance of the cat dooing its work and have it close enough to the engine to get hot enough to work its magic
this will be almost impossible with a carb setup in my opinon
as you not only have to idle but fast idle bit of the test too

I had the cat just past the primaries and had the mixture leaned a bit to pass the emissions, this was all done on a gas analyser with a zx9 motor on carbs and passed easily.Just takes a little know how on behalf of the person setting it up for you.

Hello Mick,
Track day at teesside is usually £95 for the day inc breakfast and lunch, they are very easy going and i've never seen them bother with noise reg tests. The one planned for the 1st April, hopefully, is a track day to setup the track day, the man behind the project is hiring the track for the day and there should be room for other cars.
FLYERNCLE, we where both there on Saturday afternoon when Jim asked when the car will be complete - you did say end of the month and he replied "right i shall book the track for 1st April" You said it....... BTW i'm doing a new set of white bodywork (exc bonnet which you've got) this week. The painted second hand body he had looked crap - we don't want that on the car.

Thanks andy im gona try to get a loan of a trailer to get it down there if i manage to get a trailer youve got to have a go of my car. I think you'll be impresed with how qiuck it is from 0-60 its a beast of a car. Im gona try wraping the cat with heat wrap and use a few of these lads ideas to see if i can keep the cat hot as a lot of people are saying that the cats not getting hot enough.

Hi Mick,
Good news about the laser cutter, Terry and Kyle are starting to mess me about a bit and wouldn't mind an alternative. Wouldn't mind coming up to see you car either, cant this afternoon though - got too much to do - but if we can plan to meet up next Friday that would be good plus you could show me this new laser cutters.
Cheers.....Andrew
