Just in case anyone is thinking of getting a helmet for track days Aldi have some full face helmets in from today for just £29.99 and they come with a spare visor and spare cheek pads, only one design but quite smart. Lidl have helmets coming in on Sunday I think with a flip up front section but ten quid more than Aldi. Aldi also have lots of nbiking gear, some of which may be of interest like balaclava neck tube @ £4.99 and compression underwear.

Hmmm .... Might need one of those for my next outing in Ash's car :D

Not going to keep me bobble hat on with that new motor in it

Do you know if they are going to have any adult, incontinence pants on offer before Stoneleigh show :D :o

Not sure if the flip front style helmets are acceptable for track day use, think it depends on the venue. Pretty sure they are not allowed in motorsport.

Won't generally be an issue but worth bearing in mind if that's what you are buying one for.

Don't know about any incontinence pads Ronnie.

Mark I agree but why pay more if you don't have to? They're tested to ECE-R 22.05 standard whatever that is. I don't think they'd be allowed to sell protective gear that didn't meet certain standards.

Good point, They do seem to be a reasonable helmet at a good price.

I also see where Mark is "coming from", I personally prefer to choose a helmet that I,ve tried on & ensured it fits perfectly, as a bad fitting helmet can be as much use as no helmet at all

I,m not saying that you need to buy the most expensive lid available, again on a personal note I find that Arai brand helmets don,t fit my shape of head very well, even tho they are regarded as one of the top brands etc, & I tend to like wearing either a "Shoei" or an "AGV" brand of lid.

A bad fitting helmet can also cause fatigue to the wearer, some of the cheaper lids also tend to be heavy which can become tiresome after a while, & some "bike" helmets are not the most user friendly when being used whilst driving a car, you find that due to the design it can feel like your head is being lifted from your shoulders  .

My suggestion is to try lots of helmets on & find the one that fits the best, quite snug without causing discomfort.

This may seem obvious but never trust a helmet that is second hand, if its been dropped it may not offer the same protection as it should in an impact.

I,ve got quite a few helmets that I,ve crashed in,( keep them as a sort of trophy from my bike racing days) I always cut the chin strap so they can,t be used again .

dont think thay would have the relevent markings for track use
as a biker you could try some bike shop supplyers
m&p are a good to deal with
i dont think i would be using anything cheap for my nut

Thanks for the tip off re Aldi---got a set of windproofs and a balaclava for the bike. Come to think of it they will be useful in the roadster too:D

Cheers

First thing i used to do to a new mx helmet was to drop it to knock the gloss off, then i didnt have to worry about scratching it lol:D

Wow , I,d love to see that one day

I really admire the engineering that went into the bikes of that era .

I just have a Honda VFR 750 now, great all round bike, quick enough for road use ;)

We,ll not go into about Polishing one,s helmet eh :D
