roll bar

Hi guys,

I was suposed to start on my engine mounting frame this weekend but for some reason the box section and plate i ordered didnt turn up on friday. So with nothing to do i started on the roll bar. It was a bit of a pain because my mates bending machine is four miles away so iv used what iv saved in petrol going back and forth.

I want to build a full cage once the iva is sorted so i have opted for straight vertical bits so that the tubes going forward are to the side of my head rather than above. Only thing is i cant decide wether it looks pants or not....
Still to attach is bottom stay brackets and the tube with the seat belt mounting points, but ill sort that once iv read the iva bumf to make sure its in the correct position.
whats your thoughts?.... (be honest;) )

Its not the nicest shape in my opinion but it certainly doesnt look bad

The actual bends look a little stretched though

personally i like my ones better :D but then i may be a bit biased :D

Prefer the ones Ash did and those seats look like you won't be driving it very far, flat bottomed and no side support equals a dead jacksie

Oh and the bends are no good for a race cage if you intend going anywhere near a track, they are wasted on the inside and the MSA/FIA don't accept that.

What size tube did you use?

Why are you going for the fullcage after IVA? It shouldn't cause you any problems doing it before.

My rollbar didn't look right when it was just the hoop with vertical sides, but once you add the rest of the cage it starts to look ok.

Ummmm that front hoop aint going to do a lot if you flip arse upwards, that double bend in the upright will collapse:eek:

That design of cage is only to provide a mounting point for the roof rack or top box :D

The cage is basically a copy of the mk Indy cage so I'll put my trust in them knowing what they are doing ;)

A certified cage will save you if it goes pear shaped that's the whole point and why firms like Procomp have had the cages they make certified as a safety item for racing.

Good thing I don't want to go racing then. It was done purely for looks, and to make it a little different from other roadsters.
