Welcome to the forum hope all for well with your build. Would it not have been better to do the mod on the sump before you painted it?

Yeah that would have been the idea :) but seen as tho my sump is going to be sat around for a little while I'd rather not have it going rusty :) and thanks for the welcome :)

It seems as tho, gettin a peice of 1220x 2440mm bit of wood to your house is probably the hardest part of the build! was going to start the chassis today aswell!!
michael92
3rd April 2011, 04:15 PM
I got bored as the wood is coming tomorrow now!=-) so.... i decided to lay a few of the base rails out and sit in it!! :-p
no broom! noises were made tho
shall be tacking it all up tomorrow afternoon :)

LOL, we have all done the sit in it before it's even 1/2 way there bit:)
Those wishbones from Ginge are a work of art, that guy sure can weld. Nice bloke too!
You can't go far wrong with Andy's chassis kit, I built mine using one, it was all spot on.
Best of luck with the build, keep the piccies coming:)

Firstly, I do not believe that I have welcomed you to the forum yet.
Welcome to the forum :)
Looks as if you are nearly all set to start the fun bit of building the chassis.
Know what you mean about transporting large sheets of build materials home, it's a real PITA
Sheets of ply, steel & alloy are not the easiest thing to transport in one piece, I certainly miss my old Transit since I sold it.
Love the picture of you sitting in position .... Bet you did make the brum brum noises, even if it was just in your mind :D
Got to admit it, done the same thing myself at about the same stage .... I guess the little boy within never really goes away .... Errm hang on, when I started my build, I probably was still a wee lad :D :o

Haha thank you for your welcomes and "lol's" :p im pretty sure there will be plenty!!! more pics of silly nature coming ! :-)
guess i should shed a little light on my build
colour plan i would like which i believe to be a colour by Saturn of yellow green isit ? closest i can describe to be kawasaki green :P
engine: 2.0 pinto running some wild cams haven't decided exactly yet !
lightened bottom end
want it revving quite quick!
and the all important port polish as my father does that for a living.
stainless header "hopfully" fabricated by myself
gearbox: Type 9
and to top it off just to get the imagination going i would quite like to carbon wrap the seat pannel and gear tunnel. i believe I've seen it done on here somewhere :-) looks rather nice especially with that fluro green!!

Pleased to see that you have your build table sorted.
I also notice that you have the right tools to hand, even down to the essential bottle of milk :)
Mind you, havn't spotted the kettle as yet, don't know about you but anyone on here that knows me, will tell you that I can't function without a cup of tea in my hand :o
Bit of a problem when I am TIG welding though :D
Certainly looks as if you are on a mission, nice one

well well well. :) ive had a change of heart, seen as tho i have half a rover v8 in my garage from my landrover series 3 conversion i thaught id rather have that than a pinto. reasons being lighter sounds better and will go better much better as i belive i still have my agressive cam for it :p will be using the lt77 box from an sd1, does anyone know how these compare to type 9 boxes dimensions wise as they look small enough from last time i saw one! :D

YEAH!! tis going fantastic! one thing!
does u7 and u8 look roughly how they should be spaced i was looking, and thinking will my engine be on the p**s  ha ha
think i may start welding this evening put plent of cross braces to stop distortion, but i know its going to do it haha
HandyAndy
12th April 2011, 04:37 PM
U7 & U8 look about spot on, to "the eye" it makes you think its wrong, but its to do with the width of the pedal box when using a Type 9 box,
its quite a common mistake when fitting U7 , the brain sort of tells you to fit it in line with BR9, similar to how U8 is positioned directly in line with BR8, the bottom diagram on page 38 gives the spacings for U7 & U8 from the centerline ;)
Also, don,t forget that when your chassis is fully welded you,ll be removing the steel of BR10 which is between U7 & U8 , it,ll all make sense when you come to fit the gearbox :)
Nice work Michael
cheers

nice work so far bud....the rad does look too high ...the rads position is determined by trial fitting the nosecone as the rad sits inside of it.

hey all what do you all reckon to this
http://i1134.photobucket.com/albums/m612/michaelprg/DSCI0828.jpg
i will weld the rearward nut so that is locked and will lock it off with a nyloc nut, and obviously fully weld it all including the bolt to the plate.
and as for the rad it is far far far to high! so that will be coming down 3 inches or so!! :p

thanks for your kind words :) yeah , im going to be loweing it quite a bit and maybe put it on a slight slant. i was literally going by the rule of "aslong as its under the engine" haha but i spoke to andy and he said and liek youve said the bonnet has some depth on it :)

I think so, as i have a concentric slave cylinder for my clutch so i have no major moving parts there :) and its getting the usual ally tran cover :)

No worries, as the angles on each end of D3 & D4 are the same, its easily done , (sorry for spotting it :o )
This is the order I would do things for your following purchases...
ally sheets
fuel tank & pump
prop
suspension
My reasoning would be that you could possibly get all the first 3 done within the cost of buying / sorting the suspension & so its more done than buying the suspension first, ....but thats me :D
I look forward to more progress pics

Cheers mate. I live near Asda, but my build will be happening soon in my unit down Marsh Lane, around the back of Snowflake, Tec business park.
I've got a street ported N/A 13b RX7 + gearbox and I've just got a LSD MX5 MKI diff, gonna get a few more bits next month then order the steel and start building and add a thread here :)
Should be good compact engine to play with.
