Got an L200 and had a "bit of a blow in the exhaust " recently, I didnt have time to sort it out. Got pulled by the police yesterday--number plate on the trailer didnt match the vehicle was also informed my MOT was out of date( I always forget -you can organise a reminder now). Anyway I got a £60 ticket and told to produce an MOT in & days . Got a 9pm appt for MOT this morning and when it got up on the ramp discovered a 3ft gap where the cat. converter should have been--it had been very neatly removed with pipe cutters:( probably while it was standing on our drive ) It failed the MOT.
I was told that its the new thing for thieves to steal the cats from vans and 4X4 s in order to scrap them for cash.If you own one then LOOK OUT.
The not so bad news is that I got a straight piece welded in and it passed the MOT --theres no cat requirement for diesel emissions in the test.
The funny bit is that the emissions were tested before the discovery - and they got a reading --they were too high(only joking) Lowest reading youll ever see for a diesel engine:D

Pesky p words!! They love to target 4x4's as it's so easy to get underneath! They will steal anything now a days with a lil precious metal in , we use to have a old dud battery as a door stop . Bear in mind that it was behind a door and couldn't be seen next bloody day got robbed!!!
And congrats on passing especially with today's emissions laws :p :D

I couldn't believe what you get for scrap cats these days, I weighed in the pair from my BMW 530i donor and got £140 for them!
I have a mate who scraps cars for a living, first thing he does is pull any alloy wheels off and remove the tyres, then remove the cats. He reckons he makes almost as much out of the cats and the aluminum for the wheels as weighing in the steel bodyshells.

it is very lucrative i always make sure i remove all the precious metals first almost every week you see the cars roll into my local yards sounding like tanks as theyve had the hard work done at home lol
there was a spate around a year ago where they were going from cars on forecourts !! now thats cheeky !

Some BMW cats are worth hundreds and its a legal requirment to have a cat on a diesel and must be an aproved one at that after a certain date, lucky its not in the mot test but a pull from VOSA will get a PG9 prohibition construction and use and all that malarkey.
Bet it runs better without it and they arre not worth getting nicked for as they are sometimes steel and not ceramic.
Its about time the government got tough and handed out 5 year driving bans and £1,000 fines for anything to do with vehicle crime.

I agree, but the theives doing the crimes would probably plead poverty and have to pay a fiver a century off the fine, and pay no attention to a bon anyway - if they even had a license to drive in the first place. these people really are beyond.
I was was in my local garage a while back collecting a car, and the neandethol spanner monkey's son was there, casually talking about "going leading" with his mates later that evening.
A while later, £14,000 worth of lead was stolen off the roof of my local church.

Agree whole heartedly, but unless the law gets some teeth they will continue to be total tossers and do as they please because they know they will get a soft touch if the go to court, they should take their vehicles too and make them watch when they crush it and list them to stop them getting insurance if they ever had it in the first place.
How about a solicitor telling a prospective client he would probably get community service for recieving and ringing a stolen vehicle.
