I've been putting off drilling a hole in the top of my alloy fuel tank, for the gauge sender. After finally going for it, drilled the hole and looked through into the tank, and remembered why i wasn't going to drill it at the end...

My tank has baffles in it, and where i drilled the float arm would be undeneath a baffle, so wouldn't work.

Anyhoo, I've drilled another one at the opposite end, which i should be able to fit the float round the baffle.

So my question is, can i tigerseal a square of aluminium over the first hole i've drilled? Will that fail IVA? :(

if it was me i would weld it back up. its the only way to be sure. i dont think tiger seal is fuel proof

I cant weld aluminium :( And I dont want to take it all out, to get it done somewhere.

The other thing i thought about was riveting a plate over the hole with a cork gasket.

Make it into an inspection panel get a larger piece as you sugest an bolt it on with a neoprene / nitrile rubber gaskett ( one o them cant remember whicb is better )

Im fitting an internal pump so i need a large inspection panel so planned this route to fit my pump but im not using ally

Tiger seal is not fuel proof, ask me how I know!!!
Cork and or rubber if you must, you could take the opportunity to fit breathers and fuel return gubbins.

 £40 quid he could pay someone to weld it back up !

Or the less than a tenner option cork preferably a fuel resistant rubber gasket and some bolts :)

Remember the book title ? Lol

personally i would weld it back up but if you "needed" to use sealant then i would use the above mentioned "shit" but thats only my opinion and not the law
and if i wanted to save a few hundred quid i would make my own bodywork rather than buy it ready made but i dont so i will.

if your gonna use a gasket you must use NITRILE rubber - look in your local yellow pages under gaskets and pipework etc for industry - i got a sheet from a local industrial unit cost me a fiver for a 2 foot square.. easiest way
