Hi, Anyone know if there is potential probs with using a brand new 2.0L zetec/throttle bodies combination for iva emissions? this is my ultimate goal and dont really want to fit one engine to only have to remove it again after iva!

Personally I think it might be a bit of a struggle to get it through as you will have to meet current emissions limits, which use injection, cat etc.

I have been trying to find an older pre Aug 1995 2.0zetec for this reason, as emissions are alot more relaxed for this age of engine on IVA. However it is proving difficult to find one.

So if I am incorrect in what I say, it would be a damned sight easier to find a newer blacktop!

im using a 2.0l zetec injecion with a plenum chamber on omex ecu. i will put an ultra lean map into the ecu to get it though IVA and then soon as its passed will give it a proper map.
I will be using a cat and a oxygen sensor wired to the omex management

if its got a cat and mapped properly it will pass, i dont understand all this faffing about emissions, if the engine has been mapped properly it should pass emissions and be perfectly drivable especially with efi.

I think the issue is when people dont want to use the original injection system or cat. Otherwise it would be the same as the standard car and therefore it should pass any emissions test. The concern is will people be able to pass emissions even if they run it lean just for IVA.
I think for the guys who have not gone through an IVA inspection before it is daunting and a real concern, hence the questions (or faffing?) on the forum.

Once the car is built and IVA ready seek out the nearest friendly MOT station and get them to gas test it and you will have some idea as to the emissions and sort it before test,I too cannot see why you would have bother with a properly mapped motor and it should be efficient with regard to emissions and there is no gain in running rich unless it's turbo'd although it does provide a certain amount of cooling.

closed loop is the magic word here whatever ecu you are using.

the problem with std ecu would be its antitheft system and been upset by bits that may have been removed on your build (egr etc)

im not sure about omex (should do it) but i know it could be done with megasquirt2 or 3
you will need some form of closed loop set up. narrowband or wideband lambda in the exhaust.
this sees the exaust gas oxygen level and the ecu trim's the mix to suit
if your using programable this could simply be turned off after iva and on for mot :) with a pc and cable (im thinking it would be best to have two maps one for power and one for mot/iva just push in the one you need but i can see your mot one getting used for one day a year :D )

as long as your ign timming is good then i see no probs with fast idle and idle emmisons for mot or iva

Manifolds arnt important as long as the ecu see's the info it wants from its sensors. As said in closed loop it will pass Iva and run well. Ive done one and seen it through Iva and mine should follow soon. The ecu will run with jenveys, bike Tb's or a log manifold if the ecu has the info it needs.

It will also be down on power compared to your omex but not by a huge amount. On the plus side rolling road time costs money and the eec-v doesnt need any :p

This is just my opinion, I am biased and dont like Megasquirt.
