HELP!
just pondering engine mounts,
are the ones detailed in the book suitable for the 1.8cvh engine, which will be swapped after IVA for a 2.0 zetec (black top) like in spuds car?
do the engine mounts need to be positioned on the chassis differently?

Best to trial fit the engine and make some that fit, I used Land rover Rubber mounts to mount to the chassis

scratch that, i figured it out :) had a bit of a 'moment'
will probably end up going down the angled route as have trial fitted my bodged steering column and it wont fit with the standard cast sierra mounts.
would 30mm box 2.5mm thick do for the mounts or would i need something a bit chunkyer?

You want the engine as far back as possible.

after a lot more tinkering and shouting i THINK iv got the engine and gearbox in the right place
would just like a second opinion really!
the gearbox is mounted using the mounts specified in the book, not fabricated any engine mounts yet but have the engine 'in' the car and in what i think is the right place (pics below) one of the pics shows the gap between the engine and what will eventually be a bulkhead, the gap is 48mm all the way across so the engine is straight
however when you look where the gearstick will be it appears to be towards the nearside of the car by about 15-20mm. is this correct? dont want to start making engine mounts only to find iv made a fudge of something and have to re-do them.
in the pic the gearstick is in the 3rd gear position so plenty of travel.

only been able to get them to upload in facebook.

Hi Jake
On the engine, I think you are about OK, well very similar to my placement. I though I had a better picture on the web page but not what I thought, but this gives an indication of mine and seems same place.

I would just check the movement of the clutch arm will not foul on the side panel. As to being off slightly to one side, should not be a problem, even if you move the gear stick to the centre it would only be literally 1 mm difference to the rear face of the engine.

Deleted my comment on the switch that looks fine.
muchos grassias adrian, perfect explanation :)
not had chance to work on the car for a few days but will be back to it hopefully tomorrow.
does anyone have the thickness and diameter of the landrover engine mounts? cant do much more without them. (will use some blocks of wood or something as a 'mock up'

pair for a tenner form my local factors :)
where are people bolting the l/h mount to the block on a zetec? the four bolt holes at the front bottom of the block where the alternator was mounted on my fiesta engine?

not sure on the zetec, think the alternator brackets may be a little far forward, could possibly put too much weight on the gearbox end of the engine and gearbox mounts?
als have a little update, thanks to some advice from people i have managed to get the engine mounts fabricated and the engine 'trial fitted' used 5mm plate and 50x50mm 5mm thick box section for the mounts themselves.
shortened the sump too, went a little too short though, will be ok for IVA (plan to install a zetec after) so not going to bother unless i get stuck for something to do!
got the landrover rubber engine mounts from here http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Land-Rover-Ran...item3ef686c64b super fast delivery (next day)
diff and headlight mounts next then clean up and paint!
the steering column is only temp until i find some suitable metal in a scrap bin to make a proper one
some pics for your enjoyment.

I've put mine at the front. however I'm not sure I like it there so I'll probably move it back to the centre with a new mount. i'll have to turn up some spacers because of the dipstick hole.
