Hi all,
I thought i would pass this on to everyone that is in the weld grinding stage.
Make sure you don't leave any wire wool around, as the sparks ignite the wire wool.:(
How do i know this,
I left a brand new roll of wire wool sitting on a pile of old newspapers on a stool, all i can say now is..........
I now need a new stool for the garage and another new roll of wire wool.

I once put a sheet of corrugated cardboard over something to stop it being damaged by angle grinder sparks...
...I set fire to the cardboard instead! :D

who hasnt had an 'accident' with a welder or grinder?
set fire to benches, a car, bits of cardboard meant to be protecting things and even myself on a few occasions  most of my 'work clothes' are full of holes either from a grinder or welder!
grinders make a right royal mess of wooly fleecey thinggys.

oily rag under bench next to mill, again same cause 10 mins apart
left hand side of T-shirt due to leaning over mill table and soaking up oil, was wearing it at the time

I'll never forget when I was 10 and had to yell at my dad because his shirt was on fire.
He had no idea!

I managed to cut through the power cable whilst grinding in an awkward area last year, a big bang and all the customer programs lost from cnc mill controls that where all powered from the same ring main! Had a few angry engineers looking at me!! The worst bit about grinding for me is coming home with your hair full of stinky dust.

Why do you think they're called Angry Grinders http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v148/reapermen/Smileys/angry-smiley.gif

I set fire to the passenger seat of my camper once many years ago while welding the roof back on, I've also set fire to overalls while wearing them and cutting a step off a fire escape with a 9" angry grinder plus various bits of rag etc. Worst one was when I set fire to a fellow workers hair..............I was welding keeper blocks onto an overhead crane track and didn't see him sitting directly below me, he had a huge affro hairdo and must have been using lots of hairspray as it went up like a roman candle!

~1991, age 16ish, whilst kneeling on the floor with a gas welding rig welding a joint. I was pausing and felt a burning sensaiton on my foot. ( Remember that whilst keeping a good eye on the torch, you should also remember where the filler rod is. )
~2003, age 28, whilst welding a rear arch in my precious sapphire. Paused for a few moments. Then noticed the paint on the rear wing still bubbling. Opend boot to find flames from a pice of damping foam. Shouted to the wife in panic for a bucket of water.
~Last month age 36, whilst welding the Roadster rear roll bar. Paused to admire my handy work. Very impressed. Then noticed smoke, from the hand towel I use to clean of the oily muck from my hands. And the associated flames. It was thrown out of the garage and patted down with my gauntlets.
I have 3 CO2 extinguishers in the garage, but none of them is easy to get to... Must be more careful!

1/2 a lifetime ago a mate was gas welding a patch on the underside of a car and I was standing fire-watch for him. He finished the weld and a few seconds later there was a blood curdling scream from under the car followed by a thud and muted groan..................turns out he'd finished the weld and laid the filler rod down so he could turn the torch off, hot end of rod burnt through his overalls and jeans and underpants and got him right on the jap's eye:eek: , hence the scream. The thud and groan were from him headbutting the hot weld when he sat up after the burn, he had a cracking red stripe across his forehead for a few days, I opted not to see his other injury:p .
