Tube Frame

Hi, I wanted to ask if anybody has build a tube frame for his Locost instead of the one that is in book, or where can I find some info about this.

Seems a bit pointless.Imagine the nightmare trying to do the interior panelling.
Also you would probably have to have the new round tube chassis analysed for torsional rigidity etc if following the drawings for a shs chassis.

Stronger and lighter, as for panels well there is a neat canny way to panel round tube and looks smart.
For some daft reason we don't have to have a chassis tested in the UK hence a lot of "sheds" on the roads.:confused:

Yes, that is exactly the reason why I would like to use tubes, we have build already 2 standard chassis, but I'd like to test tube chassis but I can't find any photos or some useful tips for building one

I looked over the Roadrunner SR2 chassis at the detling show yesterday and it's not some thing I would like to try and make square from one end to the other. It looks very pretty in round section and well may be 2/3 the weight but £1300 for a chassis Vs £500-750 for a roadster one in square, you pays your money and makes your choices.

I'd like to make one from tubes but exactly according to Haynes roadster, if that would be possible. I just have to try it for myself :)

As MarkB pointed out, round tubing is much stronger and lighter than square tubing. It looks more professional and business like in my opinion (others may differ) and looking back, wished I built mine with tube...

However, here are some pictures of a frame build by my friend and still under construction at this stage, and rest assure that frame is as square as can be. As a matter of fact, they build these things as part of scraping together a living.
The engine is a 20V black top 4AGE and the diff a Subaru unit :cool:

My friend bought one of these part built, its a lolocost stainless tube chassis. apparently Robin hood were making them for a while. If i had the incline mine would be tubular, buts good old box section for me.

Our new secret weapon is all round tube for that added goodness factor, the aim is to make it look as good naked as it does fully clothed:)

If making a race car I think it's a neat trick to make the rear of the car look good so those behind you stay behind you to admire the view....:)
