Have finally welded up the steering shaft extension...i have a funny feeling i may have welded the plate that houses the steering boss with the offset to the wrong side....but ...with the help of a union joint at the rack a splined extension shaft and a tube to weld on to the Granada union joint, i have it all connected...BUT....I miss the U1 upright by about 2.5mm lock to lock so at least i know its straight...but is it enough clearance ???

i dont have much about 5mm
did you have to space the suspension bracket on u1 and 2?

Don't fit U1 and U2 till you have the bracket jig aligned, put bracket on jig then offer U1/U2 up to the bracket rather than add spacers to fill the gap...this will be stronger and also give you the clearance needed for the rack:)

Ahh ...wee bit late chassis is fully welded and painted....brackets were packed out with 2mm flat bar before being welded in position...would it be worthwhile cutting out the upright and budging it along a few mm ? or just see how it goes with current gap

i can make you a 19mm thick single piece shaft if you want. thats what i have got on mine but your measurements would have to be spot on. Would be looking at about £40
