Hi

I have now sourced a 2.0l silvertop zetec for my roadster! yipee! I remember reading somewhere I need to change the 2.0l mondeo sump for an escort sump and pick up pipe as it is shallower and help the engine fit under the bonnet.

My question is, if anyone can help, which escort do I need the sump off, 1.4/1.6/1.8? Or are they all the same.

Any help much appreciated as always. :D

Hi, its not an Escort sump, its an 1800 cvh Sierra sump but it still needs shortening usually. You can shorten the alloy sump you have to be honest, but you need the engine mounted to measure by how much, Dennis.

The escort sump is a bit smaller, but not by a great ammount. I've fitted one to my 2.0L silvertop but think I'm going to change it for a steel cvh one.

This is what i shortened on mine, the lower steel piece doesnt have a gasket though and is only sealed with sump sealant, mine leaked first time around so i got the stuff from ford and its oil tight now.

Its the stickiest black horrible stuff known to man, even worse than sikaflex and tigerseal!

And costs a fortune for a tiny tube..

Thanks gents.

Not as easy as I thought then!

So are you saying use a blacktop sump (from any model/engine size?) and remove the lower steel section and replace with a shorter steel plate?

Im sure it will become apparent when I see it in the scrap yard but will give me some idea of what i am up against.

Cheers

By the way, is this the lower steel part of the sump?

Type zetec cat into google, once in the site click fitment from the menu on the left, a little way down the page is a link saying phase 3 sump chop, have a look at that, its a very good guide and is the one i followed on my st sump

It was a nice easy job and went perfectly to plan as long as you use the ford sump seal when you put it back together!

If you go this route and get a second hand sump be careful taking the lower steel piece off as it will be stuck on good and proper with said ford black sticky stuff! it would probably bend quite easy if you just went at the flange with a screwdriver.

Im sure someone will put a link in this thread to that page, i would but dont know how!
