hi people a young noobie here, im on the locost forum also and have been looking about at options and bought the chris gibs book on build your own sportcar ect but not so good with the welding part, so after looking about and help from friends ive been offerd cheap or free from a friend a 1.6 pinto (im 19 so all i can insure) and after being mk today and feeling the speed of their mk indy kits and the beauty im defonatly intrested so the ideas rolling im after a roadster due to the indipended suspension design, any help would be greatful in my quest to build (slowly due to funds) a nice roadster :)

Welcome to the forum. I would'nt worry too much about putting a smaller engine in some thing as light as a 7 , after all your not going to be carrying 4 other people 80kg of bagage and a caravan.

It's more important and more fun if the car actually handles and stops than how fast it can go in a straight line. Any numpty can go quick in a straight line but to corner quick takes more than horsepower...:)

There's always chassis's appear for sale as people pack up there builds due to circumstances.

Just hang off and 1 will appear for sale.

thanx everyone for help im slowly getting together ideas and the engine isnt a worry as the daily drivers a 1.4 n doesnt bother e too much, anyone know how hard it is to rebuild the rear end of the old hanes chassis or ron champion chassis to fit independent suspension so converting from cortina to sierra ??

It's generaly not good practise to weld 2 parts together,cut throught it then weld it back together again, even more so if it's only thin gauge to start with. Thats not just me saying that as I produce them it's a safty concern, I'm sure some one who knows their penetration from their gas flow will back me up on this shortly.

Looks like ill be waiting a while to find a chassi haha thanx for the advice now back to the budget board to work my options out
