do they just bolt to the steel plate that is rivited to the bottom.
any help would be appreciated

kitcarkid,
the mounting of the seat/seat runners is not covered at all in 'the book', as you have noted, so we have all come up with different/similar solutions.
Here's what I did:
* 2 bits of left-over 19 x 19 each side between outer rail and tunnel rail
* Small plates on the top (so as I don't have to pierce the floor for the seat runner fastenings)
It will raise the seat marginally higher that Adrian's suggestion.

I few have put square section in, I put some 40 x 5 mm flat bar across where the runners need to fix. These are welded to the tunnel and chassis rails.

I was thinking along these lines just to get the seat as low as possible. I drove a mates westie with weather gear on and i had to drive it with my head to one side. kin annoying after about 2 minutes but he did have seat runners and padded seats. I also intend to fit a hood so i think as low as possible is the way.
Just my 2pc

Seat mounts are best done using flat plate as it keeps the seats as low as possible for IVA when they do the seat belt height check doodah thing.
Also if you use box section you will be required to have crush tubes through the box section where you bolt the seat runners through. It's a safety thing as well as good engineering practise.
