I cant get a solderless nipple locally for my sierra handbrake cable end so I looked on ebay.Is there any min size I need to look for?-- the ones in our local motor factors dont look strong enough for bicycle brakes .
While I'm here --I have a VW polo rad but it needs a blanking plug where the
temp sender goes. Anyone know what size and thread please?

I used a motorcycle 8mm nipple from this guy and it seems to be holding fine (I did put a blob of weld on the end though to make sure it didnt come off)

Are you sure it's a temp sender on the polo rad? I thought it was the fan switch that went in that middle hole? If so I'm pretty sure its the same size/thread as the sierra 1.8 fan switch if that helps.

With regaurds to the polo rad why not just put a temp sender in it, at least you know it will fit.

or use a merc 190e man no a/c -93 rad :)
core is tiny and thick (300x300x45) and looks easy to mount up
got mine for £60
i did some number crunching from stuff i did in college and a polo rad works out a bit undersize for higher power motors
most work ok with polo rads fitted ok as its not mega hot in the uk and the locosts are light and dont load the engines to much
as for the nipple it would be possible to make somthing up yourself to do the job

Thanks for that link BBug did you use it on the handbrake cable? If so Ill try one of those. I just wanted to make sure the hole was big enough for the cable.
Good thinking Talon ---are these switches/senders standard sizes across manufacturers?
(Polo rad already mounted in car --Fitted some hoses and noticed this darned hole)

Just ask for one in your local motor factors, it will be a fan switch, mine cost a few quid for a clio rad
You may aswell use it for its intended purpose as you will need one in the system somewhere anyway

Yup I used the solderless motorcycle nipple for my handbrake cable and it fit fine once the plastic sheath was stripped off.

Re your rad enquiry.. the hole is M22x1.5 and takes a fan switch.
Any amount to choose from here....

think I read somehere worth consider a fan switch from a diesel escort as they have a lower temp threshold so kick in quicker... maybe I was just dreaming:confused:

Thanks everyone
I think the switch on the cvh is up near the main water thermostat . but I also think youre all dead right its just as easy to stick a switch in as hunt for a blank.
