i have been looking for my ideal colour for my grp and im a bit stuck as all the blues in the ral range are too dark. im looking for a blue like the old gulf oil race cars had as the main body colour
there are colours i like in the bs code range so i took a look online if resins could be mixed to the right colours
bs 18E50 looks right and some online suppliers list it but what is the chance that bodywork supliers will be able to get bs colours?

Gulf Colours are easy to source, I have done seats and panels in the past for those going down the "gulf colour" route it also saves a fortune painting...:)

where is a good place to look for what colours can mixed and what code systems are common
i found bs4800 18E50 or bs381c 172 pale roundel blue
im not planing a gulf rep just think it would work out nice with black arches
some say the orignal gulf cars used triumph colours and others say thay used llewellyn ryland 3707 Zenith Blue and 3957 Tangerine
any idea on codes you use in the past markb

Very fortunate down here as a local GRP supplier mixes gel coat on site so can create "oddball colours" It's the only safe way to ensure gel colours are constant, as mixing it yourself can and does lead to different shades being created especially with yellows and kawasaki green. Premixed Gel ensures no streaks which is caused by badly mixed gel/pigment and is also as far as it can, guaranteed to be a match.
On saying that it's not a good idea to have a special colour mixed just in case you belt the car and need a replacement part...........keep it simple.

tiger offer gulf blue grp on their kits. there are a couple of them knocking round im my local club so it must be a ral colour
edit i think 5012 isnt too far off maybe just a little bit darker but not enough to worry about.

I've done 2 body sets in 5012 and they have been pretty close to the Gulf Blue, not perfect but a good match. The supplier we use for the Gels have mixing programs for the RAL range and BS4800 colour range, they could mix to suit but would need a sample to mix to first.
