bending SS1

Guys any tips for getting a nice smooth even bend on this side strip without putting a kink in it? just worried if I 'ease it' over my knee (ah hem) then I'll put a kink in the middle rather than a nice even bend...

Suggestions welcome

Have you got any large ceramic/concrete plant pots in the garden to use as a former? As a side note Talon accepts no responsability for b#ll#ckings about broken garden pots which is the same disclaimer used for putting engine parts in the dish washer!

hmm good call.... maybe I'll stuff them in the oven for a bit and soften them up then try the plant pot on the patio.... they crack with frost this time of year anyway right? just getting the excuse lined up !!!:rolleyes:

If you can find a cylinder with the right radius, it is the best way, but it is not easy to find as it is quite big (except if you go to Phil's garden ! Couldn't we all do that ? :) we could have a SS1 bending barbecue party !), But you can use the die. It did it this way, bending SS1 little by little, and checking along the way with the curve of CP11, and it is not that hard to find the right curve that way. No kink if you take your time. My advice will also be to tack SS1 and CP11 together before tacking the assembly on the chassis.

I found the easiest way was simply to lie cp11 on the work table, tack ss1 at one end then gently bend it round and tack at the opposite end. It went really easily when I did it. Don't forget that if you do it this way then the two sides are handed!

I tried this, but the 3mm plate was too stiff to bent to the other end in one time. I'm amazed yo could :)

I'm used to working on tractors and things like that so could be my 'brute force and ignorance' method! :D

I made a rough curve "on my knee", then tacked it to the laser cut plate, and it turned out great.
