Hi there I am looking to start work on my driveshafts, these where given too me free but the guy couldn't remember if they where off a 1.6 or 1.8. My question is what is the difference between these, as I cant find any info in the manual, they are the push in type and not bolt-on and I would like to order the replacement boots any help would be greatly appreciated

Hi Afron

Have a wee read of this thread ;)

CV Joint Thread (http://www.haynes.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=7566)

I used stretch boots like these

Stretch Boots (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/FORD-SIERRA-1-6-OUTER-STRETCH-CV-DRIVESHAFT-BOOT-KIT-/250810287520?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item3a657545a0)

I don't believe there is any diference between the early 1.6 & 2 litre push in shafts.

As said in the earlier thread, to fit original boots, you'll need to remove the metal cans to be able to split the shaft & replacements are no longer available.

TOP TIP

If you use strech boots .... Don't hang the re-furbed shafs in the window ( Yep, Direct sunlight ) just like I did .... The rubber dont like it & I have to do the job again :D :o

There are definatly some different shafts out there.

Back in about 98 I replaced a shaft and got the wrong one from a scrapper and it was not quite right. that was on a 1.8 car. Can't remember what I got the shaft off.. Got the correct one though.

Thanks guys, I have been in touch with a local motor factors and they say if I can take them in they will match them up and order them in for me, they have the outer ones for both 1.6 & 1.8 and can quickly get the inners for me so hopefully I should be sorted

Again many thanks
