I have been reading the forum now for the last 2-3 weeks getting preared for my first build.

I understand that most people use the MK2 Escort Steering rack.
Does anyone know of other racks that will suit the roadster?
Does anyone have dimensions of the Escort steering rack?

Regards

the car is designed for the escort rack, There's nothing that we know of with front mounted rack of the correct dimensions.

Thanks Mate, was just wondering if there was many options out there to use.

What ratio of rack is most commonly used/ best to use?

2.9 or 2.4
2.9 apparently better for road and 2.4 for track, although im fitting a 2.4 for road use :D (was on offer when bought)

There is one known alternative -- shortening the original Sierra rack. That's what Janne E has done:

You can find more pics of the mounts and the rack on his build thread:

Could anyone possibly provide dimensions of the escort rack?

Is it only the MK1 and MK2 racks that fit? or does the Mk3 also fit?

I don't think the mk3 rack will work as I think the steering arms are on the other side of the uprights? ie you will turn the wheel to the right and the rack will push the uprights left? I could be wrong as it's been 12 years since I last jacked up a mk3 XR3i...

The Mk3/4 dont fit, i make the mistake of fitting 1 and ended up with clown steering. stick to the earlier ones.

mk1 racks are the same as mk2's but have diffrent threads on the track rod ends and extensions will need to be bespoke
