I recently wrote off my daily driver in a hail storm and replaced it with a cheap renault megane scenic. It drives really well for an old/cheap car and seems in pretty good nick. The only thing that doesn't seem to work properly that I need is the temp gauge. At first I thought the gauge or sender was faulty as it wasn't giving a reading. After running the car for about 45 mins though I noticed it started to creep up to about 1/2 way which makes me think it's just taking ages to heat up properly. does anyone know if these engines (1.6 8v petrol) have re-circulation of the coolant to speed heating the engine when it's cold or is it likely to be something like the thermostat is just stuck open?
